updated my M18

For our wintercompetition I stopped my NT18 project and build it back to electric power

this time with inboard antenna.

Made some slots in the inner wheel adaptors for loosing some weight and easy disassamble

A hollow aluminium shaft:

Did loose 5 gram in the drivetrain, could make a difference on stock 180 power.

New Mazda body and bling-rims

Bling in the dark

By the way, it is not simple to place the bodyclips in the rear bodyposts without drilling a sleeve from the side of the spoilermount.

My front upper arms did get some play and one did fell appart so it became time to replace them. When I did create this suspension I already noticed this could be a weak construction and already had thoughts of another construction.

left: old arm
middle: electric part to connerct wires (do not know how to name that)
right: new upper arm

I did fit a brass tube into the part and fitted a M3 screw. Did solder it all together and made it to the right dimensions. I also made a few extra as spare if needed.

Last race was very good but the car was a bit out of balance. I fitted some shimrings with the springs to take out the tweak:

Zero tweak !
I also made some small changes to the toe-in, caster and camber because there were some differences between L and R and to create an even better steer response on our small track.

And mentioned in another topic a new servo which did make a huge difference in last race:

The Hitec HS5084-MG is at this moment the fastest digital servo to get.

You have very nice work in there. It shouldn't be long before we see a known brand doing something like that! That car is asking for an a-roll bar on the front...
The shocks on that position work really well.
I like your inner antenna, it reminds me mine.
Is the chassis aluminium? Don't you short circuit your batteries?
Body posts on the back, i drilled a hole so i can put the clip from front to back instead of side ways. Much easier and not difficult to make. Will post pictures if you like!
Your tyres seem to be catching on the outter side. Try using some superglue on the outter sides, or reduce diameter with a tyre truer!
Congratulations, this is a very nice (and different) project

The chassis is from plain circuit board, it is epoxy with a copper layer. The copper layer is not touching the batteries.

Regarding the bodyclips, as you have mounted it I know but the clips still are under the rear wing, this works fine for me.

The tires, they are not foam but rubber, the "damaged" sidewall is just some graphics on te side. Grinding down is also no option....

I could not find the original topic here but on a dutch forum it is stil there, you can follow the build up to the 1st races:

Hey, Roelof,

Good to see you here as well as a lot of the former 1/18th members! Wow! I'm surprised you still have this car. I remember you had mentioned Xray was interested in your design. I think that Hirosaka knock-off used a similar suspension setup as yours. Contemplated doing a conversion, but we stopped running micros, so no real use in spending more money into a car that will hardly get used.

Yes, the MRS4 is a nice car for funprojects but not for racing anymore.

The M18 is still the car to beat but the LRP is on its way with their latest version, the NRX18 was on paper the right car but in real it is crap but who knows what they will bring in the near future. The M18 just needs a more advanced suspension to stay in front and I love to see a next version from Xray.

My car is still going strong and we still have a lot of fun driving them in the winter in the local pub.
