Looking for upgrade advice

History: I got into RC a few years ago (like... 8) and had a lot of fun, but at the time had to get out of it due to stuff outside my control. The free time just wasn't there. At the time I'd picked up a Micro RS4 (right when they first came out) because I'd heard chatter that they'd be the next big thing in spec-class racing (which I love) and I wanted to get into it. That never happened.

Present: Fast forward to now and over the weekend I was cleaning out some boxes and found the old MRS4. I cleaned it up, stuck in some batteries (4xAA's) and had some fun showing my son how to drive an RC car. Cool.

There's still no RS4 class around here that I know of though. So, I want to mod the car up a little... nothing crazy though. Just more speed would be good. I'm also gonna' get a set of drift tires to go have some arse-out fun.

The ESC I've got in the chassis now is a Quantum Sport.

So basically, what should I be looking for in motors & batteries that will be simple and quick to install? Specific recommendations would be appreciated.

I would go with a 300 size motor and a 13t pinion........

Well if you want to beef up the drivetrain i would upgrade the universals to either aluminum or steel, and as for battery packs i would go with a 4 by 2 pack depending if your still using the stock battery plate. Sorry i forgot to mention that if you plan on going with the 300 size motor you will also need to get the motor plate for that size motor or dremel yours to fit the motor and dremel some material off the rear carrier so the pinion and motor mesh well.

You also might want to check there site what others they might have.

yea I just upgraded my motor to a mini T stock motor and a 6 cell 7.2v battery pack

makes a big difference thats for sure

as for drift tires you can always just use electrical tape and make your own, I have done this and it works great

Really dumb question: When using an aftermarket battery pack, how do you secure it? Velcro?

Depending on how many battery plates you have i used shoo goo on mine.....i find that if you crash or traction roll that the battery will move. It's just more secure this way, and when you want to take the battery out the goo just peels off. And i just wanted to say welcome to ym......please post some pics when you get the chance.

Nothing wrong with that, you use what you have around and what works for you.

This will work if your using an upperdeck that have the placement for the the battery plate since it allows you to take it off the chassis.

What about the "industrial" velcro. I don't know what the proper name for it is, but it's way stronger than the regular hook and loop stuff. Instead of plastic hooks on one side and the "wooly/felt" stuff on the other, it's hard plastic on both sides and they seriously hook into each other. It requires a lot of pressure to get them together (not simply pressed together like normal velcro) and doesn't come apart easily at all.

get it a try

As long as the battery doesn't move when cornering you will be good to go

Ment to ask what the selection was like at your local hobby shops for Mrs4 stuff?

You guys also have to remember that the mrs4 has been out for over 5yrs now......you would think that there would be more parts support when they came out with the drift versions.
