just picked up the mrc 960

well, i talked to my lhs guy, and he said i could return the 820 and get the 960. so, i got that one, hopefully it will work better anyway, the lhs guy reccomended charging at 1.5 amps, what do you guys charge at? also, do you have it automatically detect the peak, or do you set that?

thanks

You can cycle your packs at 1.5 amps at .5mv per cell.......when your packs have cycled you can charge them up at 2amps for more punch or 1.5amps for longer runtimes. Just remember to set the mv's......its .5 per cell so if you have a 5cell pack then it would be 25, a 6cell pack would then be 30mv.

Just like Alfred said, you gotta cycle your battery. After cycling, I charged my batteries with the same charger at 2 amps. I have eight batteries, so I go for the "punch" rather than the longer run times.

yeah... i'm going to play around with it tomorrow, and then i will let you all know what i think i have heard that it is good to deep cycle the battery, run it completely dead, then charge at 500mah, is it a good idea to do this sometimes?

thanks

When the pack is new then it is a good idea to do it, you should also do it when the pack has been stored for awhile. You should charge the pack at either 1 amp or 1.2 amps........and please check the pack by touch, heat is not good for the battery. Warm is good but HOT is not.

i just charged my 1400 which had been sitting for a week @ 1amps, and it did get pretty hot just before peaking, would charging at higher amperage make it cooler?

thanks

Then you should be fine.....usually the pack will get warm as it gets done peaking.......you should charge at 1.5 or 2amps so you wont have to wait so long for the pack to charge......and it also depends if the pack has shrink wrap, just cut a slot in the middle to let the heat out, do it on each side of the pack.

yeah,i ended up doing that after all the shrink wrapping puffed out, lol.
even at one amp, it still only takes an hour... will i see less power if i charge it at 1 amp? the original charger that came with the pro pulse battery pack charged at something like 500 mah...

you wont at all.......in fact your amperage and mah should be better now......it helps if you take the shrink off and just shoo goo the middle of each sides together......

well i have to say that i like low amperage/longer runtime better. i charged up my first 1200 pack @ 1.5 amps, and it ran for 25 minutes! it was doing about 15 at the most before.

yeah, im going to have some fun with this charger : )

--does shoo goo stand up to the heat?

... and one more question
ive been playing around with the peak (manually set vs. auto detect) when i put it on auto detect, it set itself on 35 mV and peaked too early,

soo, just to clarify, 30mV works for both 1200mah, and 1400mah batteries?

thanks
