From what I figured out, you're simply better off going straight to brushless. A good brushed motor will cost you from $30-40, and will need to be replaced outright if it's a sealed can, or have brushes replaced and the comm cut every 30 runs. And when (not if) you decide to upgrade to brushless, your brushed gear will hold little resale value. What I recommend is selling your brushed gear (you'll make $25-30 on eBay), purchasing a Sidewinder micro ESC from BPP or eBay, which will cost around $50, and buying one of those $15 brushless motors on hobbycity.com. Twice the speed/runtime, no maintenance, extremely high resale value, and it very might well be the last motor you ever buy for your RC18.
