Mahalo's Alfie
Well the only other 18th scale rig I have is the 18R but I'll get a pic of the 2 together posted up soon.
I did'nt like the way the stock shocks were sitting at that funky angle and ended up moving the chassis braces so I could mount the shocks inboard on the chassis. This made them straight up and down with much smoother operation.
After some run time outside the stock shock setup is really soft! Was going to just change the shock oil for now but then remembered I had a set of 3Racing M03 shocks! Figured I would see if I could get them to work on the MRC? I think they are similar in diameter to MLST shocks but are a shorter shock body.
Used the Upper shock mount that came with the shocks and found some lond (about 1 inch) rod ends out of the TLT kit and used them along with the stock shock ball for the lower shock mount. Using Tamiya short springs on them, red front and yellow rear.
The shocks come out about an 1/8th to 1/4th shorter then the stockers. But with the short tamiya springs I am using I got them down about a 1/2 inch or so shorter. The shocks move smoothly through out articulation and just barely clears my TP 2S lipo pack whew!hehehe
Belly clearance is just under 2 inches now.
Got to take it out to the comp site down the road from my house today after picking up my daughter from school. Ran it for about a half an hour and just loved it!!!!! The size of the MRC opens up so much more areas since it does'nt take much to make challenging line for it!
With the stock tires it made some kewl climbs and decents as the tires worked o.k. on these rocks. The blue compounds or some cut down 2.2's should make for a big improvement though!
The shock setup worked really well although the yellow springs in the rear were still to soft as the truck wanted to roll back on itself on steep inclines.
The truck could use a slightly wider stance. It sidehills good but a wider stance would improve that alot!
Another issue was the stock servo saver! It sucks for crawling but does it's job of saving the servo!hehehe
Was really impressed with the MRC's performance after the changes! Can't wait to get it back out there again!
Came home and made some changes to try and fix the issues I was having.
First I changed the rear springs to Tamiya blues. A bit stiffer so should help with the bit of torque twist I was still getting and with the rollback issue.
Second was to tighten up the servo saver! I will see how long the stock servo likes this though?hehehe I have a TowerPro 995mg servo that I will be putting on if the stocker should go? Will need to make a new servo mounting plate for it though.
Third I put my 1.9 Moab's on! Really want to see how the MRC performs with a slightly bigger, grippier and heavier tire/wheel setup?
Found some interesting info today! A guy used some G-Made 12mm hex to 12mm hex adapters on his MRC to widen the stance closer to the 1.9 Comp Class legal limit of 8 inches! He was using the stock wheels and tires though but those wideners add almost 2 inches of width! This got me thinking if my TLT wide stub axles would work on the MRC? And with a simple bearing change in the knuckles and rear hubs along with some grinding of the stub axle cup they will work!!!!
I have bushings that will work for this but am going to see if I can find the 5x8mm bearings (these are for the tlt canti-levers) If I can I will try out my tobee craft 16mm wideners
The wider stance should help with the sidehilling!
