Shock Question

Looking for a new pair of shocks. I'm unsure if I want oil filled(used on my nitro, Storm) or threaded. I'm big into bashing and pretty hard on landings. I'm big into back flips and front flips off big ramps and roofs. I ride either in low grass with ramps or in huge dirt quarry pits.

Everyone seems to be having good experience with these. Somone said they were threaded and oil filled but cannot tell from the pics.

Anyone have any suggestions for type and if oil what kind of Wt oil?

I really cant tell with the shocks......the reason why people go with threaded shock collars on the shock bodies is for tuning. You can adjust the preload of the shock.......now as for the weight of the shock oil your just going to have to experiment with that and see what you come up with.

I understand what each do. I'm just a little torn between on which I want for my type of riding. On my 1/8 Nitro there was no alternitive...it needed thick oil to keep it from slamming, which it did anyway.

But with this mini T, I'm unsure if I should go with oil filled(BRP) or some type of threaded shock. I like the idea of quick adjust ability for type of jumping, but I like the idea of of a much tougher oil filled.

Errr....

Never buy any shock that is not oil filled.....Whether it is threaded or not. Oil weight has little to no effect on compression. Compression is controled by spring rate. Stiffer springs are harder to compress and vice versa. Which brings us to "treaded shocks" Threaded shocks allow easy adjustment of spring rate by preloading or "sqeezing" the spring. Thus making it harder to compress. with the non threaded there are two ways to adjust spring rate. 1.Add spacers at the top of the shock body to preload or replace the spring with a thicker coil spring with a higher rate. The oil is for rebound control. The thicker the oil the slower the rebound or recovery from compression. Sure if you put 90 wt gear lube in your shocks you will never bottom out but your defeating the pupose of having shocks. I use 20 wt silicone oil for my mini t's and adjust rebound with the different piston options that come with the Losi racing shock kit. Also the kit comes with preload spacers for easy rate adjustment. I have even gone and purchased the optional spring kits for the front and rear. With all of that you can really get the truck dialed in to your driving style. Also I think the Brp shocks are all the same lenght and the losi shocks need to be different front to back. Something to think about.

the brp is both threaded and oil filled. my ONLY reserve with the shock is that the threaded adjustment nut is plastic instead of metal. if you are jumping off of roofs, you will probably strip the plastic nuts (and DESTROY the plastic chassis). brp still is pretty solid, though.
