Motor getting hot....

I'm running a Speed 300 motor and it's getting that hot the pinion gear is melting!!! I measured it with a IR thermometer and the reading on the can was 128F...Runs hotter than my Savage ;-)

I've tried two different speed 300 motors that both run fine in my Mini-T. There was a problem with the front diff it was very stiff, looks like I'd put it back the wrong after after installing the bearings :-( anyway everything runs freely now but the motor still gets very hot.

I've removed the clutch and gone with the 'locked' option that came with it. Do you think it's getting to hot due to the lack of slipper?

Do you all still have the clutch installed?

I'm running the Hex pack.

I was running Speed 300 and 15T pinions, and 8 cells of 2/3A batteries. The motor reached 200F+ when I was playing on the grass.... I used my RayTek temp gun to check the motor.
Then, my pinion melted. Only after 5 minutes hard running.
Now, I'm using WattAge 370 motor with steel 11T pinion. The motor runs much cooler around 110F. And I can do wheelie on both side while standing still....

Smaller pinion gear will help your motor running cooler for sure. but you will loose the top speed.

The clutch is to protect the drive train if you like to jump the little truck alot. I would like to keep it in the gear box. I already borke one teeth on the rear ring gear.

Thanks for the info, I'm glad it's not just me......

Where did you get the motor? Do you have a link so I can 'see' one?

Thanks

I got the motor from Hobby People.
Here is the Link
I'm not sure this motor is more powerful than the Speed 300 because I geared down while I changed to WattAge 370.
Anyway, I can feel my truck has more torque. I haven't tested the top speed yet.

Hope that helps.
