Ready to build my TLT...To LOCK or NOT TO LOCK?..That is the question
Hey all. My motor finally arrived at the LHS and I'm ready to begin assembly of my TLT. I like to build my kits the best way possible but I'm also a bit anal retentive and obsessive compulsive and therefore have a hard time deviating from the manufacturer's instructions on the initial build.
Winter is almost here so I will mostly be just driving my TLT around the house to entertain myself and my children. No rock crawling until next spring at least. Should I lock the center diff or not when I build it?
If I don't, what price do I pay and what do I gain?
you can use traxxas slipper pegs (if you want a part number ill get you one) to replace to balls, or take out the batts and jbweld everything (or some strong glue)
well I locked my center diff and the front diff last night i will be doing the rear tonight.
I couldnt get the center diff apart because I CA'ed it and now it is stripped out. So i just loaded the top and bottom up and in the middle I hope It holds because I couldnt get inside and de grease it! ! !
My bearing set arrived last week so I spent a morning stripping my TLT down and putting them in, I also locked the diffs, I first tried Blu-tack on the rear diff but that didn't work at all it just churned up inside the cogs creating a sticky mess that took ages to remove.
After removing the sticky mess I tried my glue gun and that did the trick no problems on all three diffs, good thing about glue gun glue is that you can remove it without leaving any residue/damage.
this guy at the lhs recoomended a diff oil... xtm racing silicone oil at the weight of 200,000 saying that it would lock the dif...but if a hot glue gun works better then i will just use that...
