ProPulse High Speed Motor Problems

I put the MTC73022 1/18 HP 370 Motor Kit into one of my ProPulse trucks and now when I pull the trigger 100% it sputters before it gets up and going. Did the addition of this motor break something and if so what might be the problem?

Sounds like you need to reset your mesh. Use a strip of paper and run it thru the gears. Then, retighten

What do you mean by reset the mesh? Are you saying to run the paper between each of the teeth of the gears?

What he is trying to say is too put a piece of college ruled paper in between the pinion and spur.......then mesh the motor mount to the pinion and then tighten.

I adjusted the mesh as best I could but nothing seems to change this sputtering. I showed a guy I know who used to race RC and he said it could be the ESC. How would I figure it out?

Also, I was messing with it a little and it does this sputtering when there is resistance... If I hold the wheels and give it throttle it sputters... If I hold it off the ground no sputter... If I putt it on the ground and give it full throttle I get sputter up till a certain speed than it goes fine... If I give it very little throttle there is no sputter... Any ideas?

Did you check all your motor connections......make sure that the batt is charged up. Have you tried another esc.

The motor wires were soldered on from factory so they should not be a problem... I just charged the batteries... I do have another T-100 that I could swap the ESC around with to see if that is the problem.

How do you break a speed controller? I am using the stock batteries with the high speed motor that is made for this truck.

Sometimes you just get a bum one.....for me when i get a rtr the first things to go is the stock electronics like the esc.

Unfortunately I am going out of town for a few days so I can't swap the ESC's yet to check it. What ESC's will fit in the ProPulse T100? Just in case it is the problem, I want to start looking for replacements.

Anyone will do......i tend to get 10th scale esc's because they handle the amperage and load better. I know that there are some esc's that will work, basically its what you can afford. Just make sure that the esc you get is for brushed motors.....if you have any questions about an esc then post the link here so we can get back too you.

Sorry it took so long....

So I took the ESC out of the truck that was giving the problem and put in in the truck that was not having any problems, and it seemed to work fine. Maybe it is not the ESC? What else could it be? Could there be a gear slipping somewhere other than the spur and pinion? I read about people having problems with the differential. Could this cause this problem? Keep in mind this sputtering only seems to happen when there is resistance on the wheels.

You might want to check the spur gear to make sure that no tiny stones got caught up in there.....i would also check the diffs and input gears as well.

OK...... SO.....

I took my truck all apart last night to check everything I could. I swapped out the drive shaft and pinion gear in the process because I had purchased spares a while back. I tested it in the road this mourning and it seems to be working fine now. I think it may have been something to do with the pinion gear after all.

Thanks for all the help again... Now I can get back to work on building my track.

K so...

Now my other truck started doing this same sputtering thing, so I swapped the batteries around and moved some wires and it stopped???

Could this be a bad battery problem? If it could be, how do I check to see if a battery is bad?
