Question help with mamba

I got a rc18t and a few battery packs a year or so ago at a garage sale. I only ran it a little bit, as it only worked some of the time. I now recently got a mamba speed controller and motor hoping to solve the problem. Now I can get the car to run at all. I am now thinking/hoping there is just something wrong with the batteries. As of now when i plug in the battery and turn the switch on, the speed controller just beeps and flashes the yellow and green lights at me with a solid red light. It doesnt seem to go to program mode, but it does respond to steering, but not throttle. If i unplug the motor i get a solid yellow light that goes away if i press the throttle. I am really unsure what the problem is. any help would be great.

Have you tried other batteries to see if the problem persists.

If the batteries are a few years old have you tried cycling the packs first.....might have memory effect causing low discharge of the cells.
