I guess I'll start the thread on the Novak Spy to answer of those those question on what motor limit or how motor you can run with this ESC. I've asked the Team Novak helpdesk about the Spy and these are the information I got back:
There are two version of the Spy. To distinguish between the two different version is:
- Original: Does not have any serial number on the bottom
- New Spy: Has a serial number on the bottom
Interestingly, I asked if the original Spy can handle motors just like the Team Orion Big Block because there are reports of people frying the Spy with this motor and this was their response:
Quote:
I’ve run the original Spy with the Big Block and the Chubby Motor when they first came out. It was fine. I’m sure people did have problems, I’ve seen people have problems with any form of electronics, in any configuration. Stuff tends to happen from time to time.
I used Lipos and Nimhs. My original test car still runs to this day, been using a Big Block and any type of battery you can imagine

So it seems like the Spy frying is like one off deal, not a common or known issue. I do got to say Team Novak has a very good helpdesk. Instruction manual can be download
here in case you find their link does not work in their support page.
