the making of "El toro 2"

Since a couple of people have asked me how i set up and Paint bodies i figured i'd do a quick Picture tutorial ( Mondo and Al i hope you guys don't mind)

first the body is Cut, Washed, and Masked.
Detail drop shadows are added at this time.
I also use Metalic flakes in light coats to get that metalic clearcoat look.

B/c of my (over) ambition i needed to add yet another layer of masking to allow me to spray colors in sections.
you can also really see the metalic flakes here with the blue masking tape behind them.

The second main body color (grey) was added here.
The design is really starting to take shape
It was also time to start weeding the dozens of tiny little squares to get that checkered pattern.

With the last main body color (white) added it was time to work on the details/highlights of the swooshs.

It's important to note since you are painting "backwards" you HAVE to start with all the areas you want to stand out first, and work your color layers back.

This is a reverse shot of what the interior looks like.
Its also important to note that areas you back with White will have more "pop" where are areas you back with black will show more "shadow"

this is a shot of the almost completed body.

the rst of the masking has been removed and painted.
the Swooshs have all be backed with brite white to make them stand out.

This is the un decaled final version.

A couple of notes.
if you have big hands like i do, Don't get over ambitious with the small checkered flag theme. the small squares were almost impossible for me to weed out even with a new exacto every few minutes.

When you work with metalic based clears ( spax stics Al clad etc) it is important that you let them air dry and do not use a heat gun on them. they get there effect by the crytsals in the paint dryin in different positions. if you heat them they all line up and go flat on you.

Pratice new ideas on transparency (over head projector) sheets) they are cheap, and let you figure out your designs and stuff without having to do it live on a expensive RC body.

Yeah, great job...wish I could paint like that...no patience for painting these days...lol! Great sticky too Alfred...maybe I'll have to paint with more than two colors again...everytime I spent that kinda time on a body, I end up destroying it in one day.
