Stripped diff?

i just installed my new elite mod, and when i stop hard or reverse quickly on carpet, there is this bad-sounding clicking, grinding noise. i know its not the belt skipping, because it only does it in reverse or when im stopping. im using the stock gear diff in front and a ball diff in the rear, and ive had the car since christmas.

Sonds like a stripped front diff to me Bob. Pull it apart and check it carefully. It doesn't take much wear before the diff will slip. Try rebuilding per the tips on this page, by Tony Leone (sp?). I tried those tips on my stocker and it worked beautifully. BTW, I aslo had a stripped front stock diff that was acting as you described in additins to some funny and inconsistent handling.

Good Luck!
