for those with 480 sleeper. a motor i found

this motor cost me only 5.99 and since i havent had a chance to test it in daylight i cant really give an honest opinion,, just the bolt of light i saw past me,,with 22t pinion

this motor is fast,,, seems to handle 9 cells with no problem,, after a few high speed runs,, and contantly chasing after wheels that fell off or unscrewed themselves,,, the motor was BARELY warm... i love this motor so far,,, here is the ebay item,, the item claims to be a speed 480,, but i believe with all my heart tht it is a speed 400 long can,,, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...956902354&rd=1

13.99 for everything

i think this is the same motor http://www.hobby-lobby.com/speed400.htm scroll down to bottom im not sure if it is,, only because the colors are different and one claims to be a 480,, but it has 400 mounting holes....

I saw this one awhile back. I spoke to the seller - he didnt impress me as he couldnt give me any specifics on the motor other than "The rotational rate is about 18700". It took him over 4 days (plus a reminder to him) to get this one of 4 questions answered, that I asked. In addition, his shipping charge is outrageous. (shouldnt cost more than $3-4 for shipping via usps)

Do the 1/10th pinions fit the shaft? If it doesnt then its definately NOT a 480 (most likely as you stated - a 400 long can)

Do you have another speed 400 can to compare this too?

Keep us informed on how this works out -

well i dont have another speed 400 to compare it to,,, the 6v will burn up,, literally smoke on you,, and the 7.2 volt might also,, havent tried,, but i did use a wattage 380 before,, which is nom at 8.4 in the morning i will be able to give a better opinion,, since i was driving in the dark.... all i could see were the sparks from the motor...

but if the 2 motors are the same then this thing has some serious power,, 170 watts...

also the shaft is the same as a regular speed 400... so i believe this is the same,,, speed 400 long can

also if it runs cool tomorrow,, then i might put the 24t on,, and if it works well with that,, then i will try the 26t...

why do you say that?

I've repeatedly run a speed 400 4.8v race in a micro running 10 cells and a 13t pinion and it never caused any harm. Was very fast too.

well i never tried the 4.8 race,,, i have been wanting to though... but i once put a speed 400 6v in,,, and i had a trail of smoke behind the car,,, maybe it was just my motor,,,, needless to say as soon as i introduced 10.8volts to the motor,, it died

the last motor i had,,, the wattage,,, the brush spring holder,, inside the motor broke off,,, with the brush still intact,,, the motor was extremely hot.... but so far like i said this long can has tons of thrust and power,,, but the real test will be tomorrow,,,, so far i like what i saw,, and felt as far as motor temp goes...

Watts=171
Volts=12
Free RPM=27.1k
Load RPM=14.7k
Amps=14
Thrust=17 oz.

well i know im running on with this,, and it might not be all that... so i will wait until the morning to post any further info....

jaejw1,

FYI. I did some research a spoke to some buddy fliers about this motor you picked up. This motor and similar are actually 400 size and are always mistakenly referred to as 480 size (only because of its long can) So factually, its a 400 not a 480 size as this seller has described it as. The other key factor is that its spindle undersized to fit properly, a 1/10th scale pinion.
