Esc + Motor

I just bought a new 27t high torque motor and have found that it stalls once the es becomes very hot...I think its the failsafe to prtect from the heat.. Im looking at a mtroniks esc to go with the motor, but i do not know if it will work... Ill include the links to check both the motor and esc.... Any help is greately appreciated..Thx.

That esc is more then capable to handle that motor...its rated for 15turns and the motor is 27t....you should have no problems with the esc going into failsafe mode.

the esc i have in it now is onimuns old one... A LRP runner which says it can handle a 17-36 turn motor... After running my TLT for about 5 min it cuts out occasionally and the esc heatsink is extremly hot. The battery connectors are also hot.. I cant run it until the esc cools down or so i think.. ...Any ZThoughts???

That esc is old, it used to be in the rtr kits for Associated.......it could be just old and getting a newer esc should fix your problem....have'nt seen too many of those esc's around now. And have you seen the new Runner, its been shrunk down.

If the plugs are getting hot, I suggest Deans Ultra plugs.

Alright. But if you use a new, higher discharge pack or motor, you're going to need the deans. Just a rule of thumb- If you don't have Deans now, you'll have them tomorrow. XD
BTW: Rule of thumb was derived from America way back when. The husband could only beat his wife with something that's less wide than his thumb. If it was wider, it would have been an illegal act. Now you know...

They are the W.S. Deans Ultra plugs. They're red. There is a male plug, and a female plug. A male-type plug connects to the other (coughcough). Go on TowerHobbies.com and search "deans ultra" and you'll find it.

The Dean's plugs are soldered on, you will need the females for the batts and the males for the esc and charger plugs...if you need to see a pic then i can provide one for you.

Here are the pics for you to check out.....I use Deans Micro's for the motor plugs and the Ultra's for the batts......In the other pic is the Male charger lead and the female plug on the battery.

Yes what you have as for the links should do, except for the charger plug you can do it yourself as well as the motor plugs.

I personally dont think there is a need for Deans on your TLT with a 27T, especially if you arent using Deans already with all your other cars. Current drain isnt that high with a 27T and your not racing or anything anyways. Ive used plain old Tamiya plugs with a 17T motor and everything was fine. Plus if you change your ESC plugs to Deans... your warranty will be voided. Its good to have the warranty if you plan on going in water.

If you find youre not having enough torque with your 27T (ie the stalling you describe), you might want to look into a 55T lathe motor. Its under 20 bucks on Tower and you will have loads of torque and still good wheelspeed.
