D-Box

Is the D-Box necessary to learn drifting? I mean I like drifting and all, but I wouldn't want to do it all the time. If I got a Micro RS4, should I get the touring car version and when I want to drift, tape up the tires, and teach myself to drift, or pay the extra for the drifter, and learn with the D-Box, and buy touring car tires for when I don't want to drift?

No..The D box isn't needed at all. Most of us bought our MRS4s when they were kits. Drifting came along later. If you compare the 2 versions, you'll see they are identical, except for tires and the Dbox. If you use a 6cell battery, the stock motor, and electical tape around the tires, you'll get the same effect...Besides, the money saved by not getting the Dbox can be used for better upgrades.
If you wrap the tires, make sure you wrap in the opposite direction of rotation so it doesn't peel.
