time for an update....

no pics yet.. just an update.

I had managed to get about 5 hours of total free time to spend working on my micro on saturday. Once I was FINALLY satisfied with the grinding down of the posts for the dual link addon-mod to get the HS-85 to fit, to rebuild the rest of the car was sooooooooo easy... LOL. I think it took me about 2 hours to "tweak" the dual link kit to a setup that I found to a) be level and b) low enough and c) strong enough. I did have to do some minor grinding of the front axle carrier, because the screw that goes into the dual link servo horn (left side only) would touch that carrier and was affecting the servo travel. So yes, the setup I came up with wasnt 100% centered on that groove in the plate. Gotta love dremels! weeeee. Its free moving now. I will try and snap some close up pics tomorrow night.

So now comes the battery, esc and rx install. Already im finding it kind of tight to get my CBPs.com 6 cell 2/3a sized battery in there. Have to stop by Canadian Tire and grab some of that shoe-goo stuff. Then I could maybe fix my bowling shoe's also! ROFL.

On a total side note, the original micro kit that I had ordred via my LHS, FINALLY came this past friday. I had placed the order for it a couple of days before christmas last year! ROFL. Ah well. It is now the gf's ride, once I get a micro servo, esc and a battery off CBPs.com then deans on it like mine will eventually be. The TX and RX are going to be the old parts that came out of my Savage. Might as well get them used.

Yeah really. Once I put my mind to a job or task, I like to be able to do the job and get something accomplished. After that, im kinda satisfied on what I got done and I dont have that massive urge to try and find time to get it completed.

It was just buggin me to not have that servo installed after 2 weeks.. lol. But now its in there. I hope. hehe

one month later .....

alriggggghty ... time to spark up my old forum posting.

So here we are, one month later... I finally have the mc230 tamiya wires and bullet wires removed from the ESC. Male deans installed on the battery connection and the ESC motor wires are hooked up directly to motor. I would have liked to clean up the wire posts on the motor to remove some of the extra solder that was on there from previous, but I was more afraid of snapping off those tabs or using heat to remove it and risk damaging the motor. So I just soldered as I normally would and its on there. I did however add some shrink tubing to both connections on the motor. Now whether the motor still runs after my soldering, is yet to be seen since it hasn't been installed into the car yet. The ESC battery connection seems fine, the ESC powers up and resistance values seem good.

... and thats about all that I have gotten done in the past month.. LOL. Well, most of my free time spent this past month, was to learning how to solder.

So most of my "other" free time was taken up with a community theatre group that my girlfriend and I have been a part of over the past 2 months. But that comes to an end next week when we go live on stage! yay!

I will try and get some pics taken by this weekend.

Im glad to see that everything is going well for you man......cant wait to see the pics of the progress your making. And you dont have to have the motor installed into the model to test it, just hook it up to the esc and give it a whirl.

Ahh ok, wasnt sure if I needed to have a RX and TX hooked up to control the ESC to spin the motor. I'll plug it in this weekend and see what happens.

Actually it was funny when I was testing the battery connection with the ESC. I plugged it in, waited for the "led" light to come on and... it didn't. So I wondered how come, hooked it up to my voltmeter again and then I shook my head and well ... flipped the switch to the "on" position... ROFL! What a dummy.. hehe.

update

its picture time lol

Finally finished swapping over to deans on my MC230cr and soldered the motor connectors directly onto the motor. I think it looks pretty good for a first time crack at it!

Now this is also an older pic from a couple weeks ago, since then I have sanded down the motor shaft, fitted an HPI 12T pinion and grinded out a spot for the set screw on the metal pinion.

thank you, thank you *takes a bow*

Oh btw - I plugged in the battery and flipped the switch on and yep, the motor spun as you said it would. It just kinda "blipped" as it spun, which I assume it was following the pulses from the ESC. It took a while, but that's how I managed to sand down that shaft.

Which I sanded down exactly as you and others have posted on here. Sand it down, test fit and redo till it fits. Which is exactly what happened. It wouldn't fit and then a few more seconds sanding and it fit like a glove! lol. I was using 150 grit I think. Which was a very fine sandpaper.

Now that I have free time again, the micro build should be nearing completion in the next few weeks.

Now arent you glad you took your time to solder, your soldering skills will soon be up too par with mine.....lol. Now all you have to think about is the electronics placement on the chassis.

lol yeah and im still learning about soldering.

The other day when I was making up that adapter, man it felt like i was starting all over again. The adapter does work and great continuity and all that, but getting it soldered seemed like a task again. I still think im using too much solder and the heat part of it I havent figured the proper amount just yet. Since I dont want to leave it on there and smoke the deans.

I was figuring the RX (JR RS310) at the front, battery under main deck in stock position, and the ESC above the battery.
