Yeah, same question. The included ESC is smaller then a MC230CR and probably has the same power handling...

I removed the stock ESC due to the poor braking I was experiencing with the stock ESC. The brakes were way to sensitive, almost to the point where the truck would flip forward when coming to a quick stop.

I also switched the RX because l like the features of my Futaba FM transmitter, and the stock ESC is AM.

I did put the stock motor back in tonight and run it some, and its not that bad for an RTR kit. The speed is great, and torque seems to be pretty stong too! The one thing that i have found, that i DONT like about the motor/pinion is that the stock Pinion is somewhat an odd inner diameter size. The stock pinion fits the stock motor shaft perfect. But when you try to put the stock pinion on other motors (such as mamba or our prototype motor, the pinion is somewhat loose on the shaft. If you are going to run a mod motor on it, DO NOT HAVE THE SHAFT FILED DOWN! This is common on our K3 motor, amoung other like the Beast, Ruby, etc.....

Again...still running the MC 230CR and FM RX.

I have also fitted the Mini Quake with a Proline Mini-T Crowd Pleazer body, so yes, you can put other bodies on the truck. This body gives it a very aggresive, race look. I will post pics tomorrow of this body.

Next mod will be to lower the truck a bit (approx 1/2"). This will help the handling quite a bit, but still give it good clearance to take off road.

URC Mini Quake update: PICS!

In running it a bit more this week, with a slight set back (Broken driver side upper and lower A-Arms), the truck is very nice!

A-Arm Breakage: Fortunately, these two pieces are covered under the "STRESS TECH" 1 year warranty (Free to replace). We had installed a Mamba 6800 and were using it with our X23 pack. The truck hit a curb, and snapped the upper and lower A-Arms, driver side. No other damage was noted. The parts were sent back to Duratrax for replacement.

Two Drawbacks on the Mini-Quake:

1. The stock pinion (16t) has an odd inner diameter. It seems that it only wants to fit the stock motor correctly. You can get it to fit other motors, but there is some play in regards to the pinion moving laterally on the shaft. When you tighten down the set screw, it pushes the pinion off center, causing the pinion to be not true on the motor shaft. This is CRUCIAL on higher rpm motors like the Mamba, because when installed against the spur gear, you will have a tighter gear mesh where the pinion contacts the spur at the point where the pinion is pushed the furthest away from the shaft. This can wear down your spur gear MUCH faster. To combat this, we just use a 13t HPI pinion (P/N: 72485). This pinion was a set down from the stock pinion (16t), but due to the increase rpm of the mamba 6800 vs. the stock 380/400, it seemed like we would not loose the much of speed (see A-Arm breakage above). The 13t pinion fits perfect, and the set screw is much larger than the Trinity Pinions we were trying to get to fit on the shaft. The 13t pinion IS a great alternative at the current time for your truck if you are using the MAMBA BL System.

2. The fact that the truck is available is awesome! This is the truck that I, personally, have been waiting for, an "Mini E-Maxx". I am not taking anything away from the other trucks out there, I just like the looks, and so far the performance, of the a Monster Truck look, not a stadium truck look. But, go try to find spare/replacement parts for it....currently there are none! Tower seems to have all the spare replacement parts available in November, but when you break parts, it is nice to be able to get replacements immediately. With my broken A-Arms, the replacements would only cost approx $4.00, and I would just like to be able to purchase a replacement (you can never have enough of these types of part in your garage) rather than sending back my broken ones, and waiting for a replacement. Granted it is free, but when you look at having to pay for priority shipping, it is almost better just to go buy a whole new set and have them immediately. But, to each their own!

Over, I am very please with the truck thus far. I have not experienced and twisted drive shafts, even on the Mamba 6800. An 8000 Mamba might do this truck, and many other types of cars in, so I would NOT recommend anything higher than the 6800 mamba!

Do other bodies fit the Mini Quake?
YES! Granted you will not use the same mounting hole locations, others do fit. We have mounted a Proline Crowd Pleazer Mini-T body on the Mini Quake. I especially like the look of this body on the truck, gives it a "RACE" look!

Enjoy the pics, and stay tuned for more pics and videos!

That truck looks really cool Jon!

What is your general feel of it compared to a Mini-T?

How is the stock suspension, too firm, too *sprung* ?

I also would like to see a top down pic with your aftermarket gear in it.

The reason the stock pinion doesn't work on the other motors is simple, its sized for the 400 size motor shafts I believe.

Similarly to how I put a 400 motor in a micro rs4, you can use any 540 sized pinions with a small 1/8" brass tubing available at most hobby shops placed inside the pinion, drill a hole through the tubing where the set screw would fit so it can still grab the motor shaft.

Have you tried fitting a 480BB motor in there? That would probably work great in a truck, tons of power! I think Roelof has a 480bb race in his micro and it goes almost 60mph

I will get some "naked" pics (of the truck) for you...no problem. I am going to try the 540size pinion mod tonight.....so i will let you know how it goes.

Just incase what I wrote above didn't make sense since I posted so late - To use 540 size pinions on the mini-quakes stock motor you can put a 1/8" copper tube into the pinion to make up the slack. To use the mini-quakes pinion on a S300 size motor however you would need to use a smaller peice of tubing, maybe 1/16" (half the thickness?) best bet would be to bring a S300 motor into the hobby store with you along with that pinion and try different tubing until you find one that fits snugly, thats how I found out the 1/8" tubing worked for the 540 pinions on 400 motors.
