I hate to bring this topic back up
But I was wondering if you tried the 480 on just 6 cells?
I'm looking into racing my 18T at the local track, and I know most of the guys are running brushless setups. I'm not looking to get into brushless just yet.
I'm pretty sure that there is a 6cell nimh or 2C lipo limit on batteries, so just wondering what type of performance would the 480 give on 6 cells nimh or 2C lipo?
On a side note anyone know if a 2C Thunder Power 1320mah pack could handle this motor?
Thanks for any info/help!

I think Jae ran the motor with a 7 cell and liked it like that. 6 should be okay, but the 7th would be better. I'm sure your 2 cell will perk things up . I think most of these 480's are airplane motors anyway, and they run anywhere from 2 cell packs to 4 cell $million dollar packs
I think the paskier problem will be trying to find one of these arce 480's. Then you're really pushing the MC230 to it's limit's

Yeah finding one locally will probably be a big problem!
The mc230cr should be o.k. since it will run a 20t 540 motor. I guess the Thunder Power pack should be able to handle the 480 motor o.k.
I was thinking of the 6 cell pack for racing out at BP?

I got about 5 or 6 packs ran through my conversion now. On the run before this one I blew the right rear 1/2 shaft and the left front. I sheared the pins right off the end!!! I orderd MIP CVDs the other day, they should be here soon.
For the last run, I took the 2 only good shafts and made it RWD only. The thing was absolutly insane. If I nailed it, all it would do was spin in circles. I'd slowly get it going around 20 MPH, then nail it and the tires would still spin and make it spin out. I got a few good straight full throttle blasts out of it and top speed was awesome.
Then, I started hearing, click, click, click, click. I just kept driving it anyways. When the pack was dead, I took it in the house and pulled it apart. I sheared 3 teeth off of the diff gear.
I guess I'll just keep beefing stuff up as I break it, because this motor is staying in there for good. There is no way I'd go back to those dinky little 280/300 motors. I'm spoiled now.

what kind of speed (rpm-wise) do you get from it? how does it compare with a mamba 8kv or the c4 9200?

no comparison,, from what i remembered.. but with the right speed controller you can add tons of batteryies and make it just as fast as a mamba because you can use such a larger pinion

fair enough.
did you shim up both diffs? i just did that to mine to stop the "popcorn maker" sounds that i'd hear when i grabbed some throttle while turning.

Yes. I ran 3 shims in each diff. The diff gears only last less than a week with the 480 motor because it put out gobs of torque.
Also, I haven't really messed with my 18T in about a month or 2. Summer's here and I'm working on/racing my Mustang for now. When the (car racing) season winds down, I'm going to order a Speed 480 Race "BB" for my 18T and really make some power then.
