The quickest and easiest way to increase speed? (Lots of Qs inside)

Hey everybody - I have only had my mini-t for a few days, and haven't done any mods to it other than swapping out those awful bushings for some nice teflon bearings.

In stock form this thing is a blast to drive, but I know it has a lot more potential.

I know that changing the batteries would make a good difference, but which pack should I get?

I sold off my packs and chargers for my stampede when I lost interest in the hobby a while back, so I would also need a new charger - what's the best (without being insanely expensive) option?

How far can I go before I have to upgrade the ESC?

Are there any motors that I could drop in without modification that would make a decent sized difference?

Sorry for all the questions, but I figured if I put them all in one thread it wouldn't be as bad

Thanks a lot guys!

MRC makes a great charger..the 959... its charges all batts but lead acid which one step up does..the 969. The 959 is only 60 bucks where as the 969 is 100. Best way to make it fast is put trinitys monster motor in it. They really haul ass. Im not sure if the stock speedo with hold it... anyone back me up on this? We changed electronics day we got it!

I have the Trinity motor and bearings and my ESC does not get hot after a long run.

Hawaiian - what batts are you using? Did the monster motor make a big difference?
Thanks

I have a Peak Racing 6 cell 1200NiMH 7.2 volt battery.

I noticed a HUGE difference switching from AA's to the pack, bearings, and the trinity motor. I put them all on at the same time so I am not sure what the difference would have been with just the motor. This lil thing is a little to fast to run inside the house now.

I'm going to pick up a battery pack for mine tomorrow, I think I will hold off on the motor for now though.
I can't wait for this little thing to get some new life...

About how long are the runtimes you're getting with your setup, hawaiian?

The battery pack will give you the most noticeable difference from the 4 AA's. Runtime should be around 10-15 minutes.

bearings and rechargables first, maybe motor/batts then bearings - bearings only 15$ and does make a difference. if you can get aftermarket electronics, the stock speed control is horribly slow.

I disagree, the stock esc seems just fine.I usually swap out stock crap like that but this time I am leaving it in because it can handle 8 cells and speed 300 without skipping a beat.

guy at the lhs lost reverse with 6 cells. i notice a huge speed increase with a lower resistance esc - actually i notice a decent difference between those with a spy esc and my racing esc. i guess there are differences in the tolerances (like any electronics) that might make some better able to handle higher currents, and some not able to handle stock requirements.

how long have you been runnin 8 cells?

all i am saying is by switching to a faster servo with nicer radio and low resistance racing esc i think most will be happier (i am also tired of carrying around more than one radio) but no there is nothing wrong with the stock electrics - especially when you keep 6 cells, and most do - i run 6 to race, 8 to bash! i just assume that most people wish to race their mini-t and noone here is running stock electronics in the races at all. and my speedo can handle 10 cells without sweating (even though i can only charge 8) - i might have to try 10 cells! lol

i am extremely glad these trucks come with RTR electronics, so many people here have them - and when my friends ask how much i dont have to include buying aftermarket escs/radios/servos etc....just the 150$

dirthog - No it's not hard at all if you get a small esc & reciever. Novak and most good radio companys have micro recievers. A quantum esc or something similar in size will fit in the stock space just fine.

Shindel - Yeah switch to a decent battery pack first and see how you like it. I'm running a speed 300 & 6 cell brick pack that I had laying around from my micro. It's sick compared to the stock motor and I was happy with the speed from stocker.

The speed 300 will run you about 15 bucks and requires you to do a bit of drilling on the stock motor plate. Also Blind is selling some nice little deamons on his sight.
