Sup peoples!

Been lurking for a while now but just wanted to say what's up. I picked up a used MRS4 RTR a few weeks ago with a Ratsaz lower chassis and a Simprop 300 motor. I was fortunate to find a clean unmolested MRS4 for cheap. From what I can tell these are the only mods the previous owner did.

This thing is a money pit... haha! So far I purchased a 1200 mah nimh battery and a Dynamite peak charger, 9T and 12T pinions, drift tires, pro foams, Mustang Cobra and AE86 bodies.

It runs fairly well but the past few runs I noticed that it seems lacking compared to the first time I ran it with the 1200 battery. I'm thinking maybe the motor is tired or the battery is shot (only about 10 runs/charges so far). The car is a bit slower and the run times are shorter by maybe 3-5 minutes.

I'm debating on trying to run a fresh Graupner Speed 300, a new battery or maybe a Jwerks brushless 6600kv esc/motor combo. Not sure which direction to go... your thoughts?

First, welcome to YourMicro and I hope you enjoy yourself here.

I'd suggest the Graupner Speed 300 & battery as the best value route first. The brushless motors are extremely powerful and from what I've seen and read can be a tad tricky.

Thanks... I just picked up the Jwerks Brushless 6.6kv combo before I read your reply. I couldn't pass up the deal.

I may just set that aside for the near future and still give the Graupner 300 and new battery a shot.

Welcome to the site. You may want to beef-up the drivetrain with a ball diff and universals before going with such a hot motor...It's almost like putting a top fuel drag engine in a Yugo. What type of surface do you normally run on?

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas... I will get some pics up shortly.

Since I'm a street basher, I think I've decided to go with a Graupner 300 and battery (what kind?) for the MRS4. I know front/rear diff along with universals are almost mandatory. I'm also debating on even upgrading the MRS4 as it is an older platform with what seems like a dying aftermarket. With the loot that I dump into the MRS4 I may as well buy an Xray M18 Pro!

As for the Jwerks combo, I'm thinking an off road platform. Perhaps the Losi Mini-T or Mini LST. Man, what did I get myself into... haha!

Yes..the aftermarket items for the MRS4 are getting hard to come by. I consider mine like an old "classic"...cruise on a smooth, wide open space. You hit the mando items right on, but front ball diffs are hard to come by. Also, look into an alloy steering linkage. The stock plastic flexes too much.
The batteries are pretty much up to you. What ESC are you running? I bought my cells in bulk from www.batteryspace.com and built my own packs. I'm running 7cell 1100Mah Nimh, and they're almost too much for me, with an Orion Bigblock...I'm a terrible driver anyway.
As far as offroad, you may want to consider a Losi Mini Baja instead. It the same thing, with better (individual) electronics and chassis upgrades over the mini-t. With the T, you would have to replace every electronic piece (Rx, ESC, and servo) to use your Jwerks. I got one of the last Mini-T Pro versions, and I think it's a way better package than the RTR version. The Baja is similar to the Mini-T Pro, and has better electronics.

I can admit that I am addicted. I've been out of it for about 4 years, my last car being an HPI Nitro RS4. I sold that thinking I was done with this hobby. I knew I became addicted again when I saw both brushless and 540 converted MRS4s on youtube!
