96744 Micro's Losi Mini Rock Crawler

So it begins!

Finally got my Team Losi Mini Rock Crawler (Blue) yesterday!!!!

Even though I have seen this thing in person it is still pretty amazing just how small this thing is! But man is it Kewl!!!!!

Plans are for the typical cheap/free mods like lower the battery, esc and rx positions for now Had bought some 70mm Axial threaded post but they are to long I guess I read wrong as it turns out that I need the 60mm ones. So need to exchange the ones I have just hoping the lhs has them?

I know limiting the shocks are a good thing just have'nt decided if I want to just add something to the outside or open up the shocks and add something to the inside?

Right out of the box the esc was hanging from it's mounting position? Not surprising as I'm sure it had a HOT trip here!hehehe Another thing was that 2 of the tires are a little flat spotted. Funny as it is the two tires that are sitting in the fake rock boxes.

Changed the plugs to Dean's Ultra's today. Was going to go with Micro Plugs but everything else I have are Ultra's so just stuck with those.

I will run it in it's stock form for a little while though. Only change will be a Thunder Power 2S 1320mah LiPo pack. Oh I do still have those 1.9 Moab's that I cut down so that would let me see what different tires would do?

Proline is supposed to be coming out with some 1.9" Flat Irons and maybe some other tires as well? And Losi has Blue Compound Mini Claws and another one (forget the name?) Then there is always the option of attempting to cut another set of 2.2's down

The Losi MRC is 1/18 scale and the AX10 is 1/10th scale. As with the AX10, a few mods and this lil crawler can become quite the fun lil ride as I have heard. There are already a handful of them floating around w/ the crawler club guys here.

There are 1.9 alum rims avail to fit the axles, vendors on Rccrawler.com have started to produce new chassis designs to fit the kit, Usrcca has made rulings up for these crawlers as well.

....edited out the middle section as per below comment....

If I was going to get one, it would be one of those... " I got it for xmas and I didn't like it and I just want to dump it for cheap money". Then have some fun modding it.

The MRC is 1/18th scale and is roughly half the size of an AX-10!

These things are a real blast to crawl with even in stock form, but with some simple changes they are very capable rigs!

Nice to see my thread turn into the MRC Bulletin Board

Here's some pics of my MRC with the changes made. Yah it did'nt take long for me to decide that I was not going to be running it stock for very long

Well I had taken it with me to our Crawler Comp on Sunday and let a friend drive it! Even before I did He immediately called the lhs to put one on hold for him!!!! hehehe

But since we started talking about starting a 1.9 Comp Class next season I came home and began making the simple changes to the MRC.

First was the trans/skid flip to make room on the upper links to mount the battery.

Next was removing the battery/electronics tray to lower the cog on the rig. Added some Axial 60mm post as chassis braces and moved the upper shock mounts to the chassis. This lowers the ride height a little.

Made some lexan trays for the upper links to mount the receiver and battery on. And mounted the esc on the rear axle servo plate.

Cut some new holes in the body to lower it little over half an inch. Much better look to it.

Have not had a chance to run it since making the changes? But soon very soon!

Dang that looks nice.....the best way for a person to get into rock crawling indeed......can you post up a comparison shot with some other 18th scale rides you have.

Mahalo's Alfie

Well the only other 18th scale rig I have is the 18R but I'll get a pic of the 2 together posted up soon.

I did'nt like the way the stock shocks were sitting at that funky angle and ended up moving the chassis braces so I could mount the shocks inboard on the chassis. This made them straight up and down with much smoother operation.

After some run time outside the stock shock setup is really soft! Was going to just change the shock oil for now but then remembered I had a set of 3Racing M03 shocks! Figured I would see if I could get them to work on the MRC? I think they are similar in diameter to MLST shocks but are a shorter shock body.

Used the Upper shock mount that came with the shocks and found some lond (about 1 inch) rod ends out of the TLT kit and used them along with the stock shock ball for the lower shock mount. Using Tamiya short springs on them, red front and yellow rear.

The shocks come out about an 1/8th to 1/4th shorter then the stockers. But with the short tamiya springs I am using I got them down about a 1/2 inch or so shorter. The shocks move smoothly through out articulation and just barely clears my TP 2S lipo pack whew!hehehe

Belly clearance is just under 2 inches now.

Got to take it out to the comp site down the road from my house today after picking up my daughter from school. Ran it for about a half an hour and just loved it!!!!! The size of the MRC opens up so much more areas since it does'nt take much to make challenging line for it!

With the stock tires it made some kewl climbs and decents as the tires worked o.k. on these rocks. The blue compounds or some cut down 2.2's should make for a big improvement though!

The shock setup worked really well although the yellow springs in the rear were still to soft as the truck wanted to roll back on itself on steep inclines.

The truck could use a slightly wider stance. It sidehills good but a wider stance would improve that alot!

Another issue was the stock servo saver! It sucks for crawling but does it's job of saving the servo!hehehe

Was really impressed with the MRC's performance after the changes! Can't wait to get it back out there again!

Came home and made some changes to try and fix the issues I was having.

First I changed the rear springs to Tamiya blues. A bit stiffer so should help with the bit of torque twist I was still getting and with the rollback issue.

Second was to tighten up the servo saver! I will see how long the stock servo likes this though?hehehe I have a TowerPro 995mg servo that I will be putting on if the stocker should go? Will need to make a new servo mounting plate for it though.

Third I put my 1.9 Moab's on! Really want to see how the MRC performs with a slightly bigger, grippier and heavier tire/wheel setup?

Found some interesting info today! A guy used some G-Made 12mm hex to 12mm hex adapters on his MRC to widen the stance closer to the 1.9 Comp Class legal limit of 8 inches! He was using the stock wheels and tires though but those wideners add almost 2 inches of width! This got me thinking if my TLT wide stub axles would work on the MRC? And with a simple bearing change in the knuckles and rear hubs along with some grinding of the stub axle cup they will work!!!!

I have bushings that will work for this but am going to see if I can find the 5x8mm bearings (these are for the tlt canti-levers) If I can I will try out my tobee craft 16mm wideners The wider stance should help with the sidehilling!

Here's some pics

That's kewl man!

Either way your going to have a blast with a Crawler!

Have any idea which one your going to go with? Axial? Losi? Venom? Berg? Kyosho? hehehe

Well finally got some pics taken of the MRC next to my 2.2 Crawler. Sorry it took awhile

Have not run the MRC in awhile. It's back to all stock equipment with the shocks now mounted with the lower links on the axles. Brings the ride height down a little and has been said to make the truck a little more stable?

I plan to pick up some Blue compound Claws or maybe wait for the Pro-Line 1.9 Flat Irons? I really want some real beadlocks! Torn between some $60 Eriteks? or the really nice Losi's at around $100!!!! The Losi have gotten good reviews already and they come with some wheel weights that screw to the wheels.

Losi mini rock crawler

I have had mine for a couple of weeks and it is a blast. I have put the high clearance lower arms on it. I just put the new proline hammer 2.2 tires and beadlocker wheels on it. I am putting 4 wheel steering on next week along with soft springs. Man will this thing climb,

HEHEHE

Those 2.2's look NutZ!!!!

Not much going on with my MRC lately.

Got to run it on X-Mas day for a bit and found that as kewl as the TLT body looks with the current suspension setup the body is limiting the suspension to much now!

So I will be going back to the stock body for awhile as I don't know if I want to hack up my TLT body

Still waiting to find some blue compound tires locally?

And trying to sell off a Team Edition B4 I have to pay for upgrades for the MRC

Well it's been awhile has'nt it

Anyways have been getting more runtime in with the MRC the past month!

I made a 4-link plate for the rear upper links using an old Penguin R/C P3500 battery plate

It definately helped with the torque twist. Need to go to a thicker oil with the stock shocks I think.

I also picked up some Proline G8 Flat Irons! These things are a bit bigger then the Losi tires. They work really well though.

I ordered some 3Racing alloy knuck's, c's and rear straight axles. And then ordered some cvd's and 3Racing MLST shocks! The knuck's, c's and rear straight axles came in already but waiting for the cvd's to come in then I'll change things out. But might run the stock stuff until something breaks?hehehe

Also picked up some Losi steel lockers for the front and rear axle. And the trans locker. I finally stripped the rear plastic locker after changing to the Prolines. Shows how much more grip they have over the stock tires!hehehe

Oh and I also ordered my Erickson Beadlocks! They should also be in this week.

Going to install a Z590m servo using a stock TLT servo plate for now. Not the strongest servo plate but should work for now And will be adding a Castle CCBEC.

Here's a couple of lame vids of the MRC in action!

First vid is a climb that my 2.2 Axial could'nt do at a comp last summer!
