Its a hoot! Power sliding on the hardwood is neat, but after awhile it starts to get tiresome, plus when I slide into walls. The roads aren't that clean from winter to really take it outside w/o hitting sand / rocks everywhere.

Now im thinking I may just have to get the one-way for the alum cup joints that comes in that kit. I was thinking the upgraded dogbones would eventually split the plastic stock ones. Ball diff I have on order. Then there is the alum diff frame you had mentioned about earlier.

Now the only thing i would suggest is to shorten up the wires so they look nice and neat and not just everywhere on the chassis.

Awwww but i like the birds nest of wires LOL

The motor wires and battery wires off the esc could use some trimming. I purposely left them long to see how everything fits, since I was unsure of how much wire i really would need. Now I have an idea so I can lay it out a bit better and tuck stuff here and there etc. Have to buy a bottle of pop over the weekend and do the internal antenna thing.

Hmm well I had already settled on the JR xs3 pro, so I wont be going spektrum till this transmitter dies...lol. I just bought the transmitter in December last year and I want to get some good use out of it. This is also the first advanced transmitter I have ever owned since my first r/c back in like 1988 or whatever it was.. lol. Never had so much setup to look at before, its kind of confusing since I dont really know how it affects what i do. Oh well, with time ill figure it out

racing in the winter !

Hmmm, lets start up my old thread again ... LOL. It's only been 5 months since I last posted something onto my build thread.

Anyways, had some questions for the masses. I'm going to be racing this coming winter and curious about my setup. The new track is going to be carpet (Ozite carpet) instead of linoleum, so I'm wondering if someone could let me know some preferred setups for running on carpet tracks.

1) Tires: Which HPI tire would be the better carpet racing tire?
According to HPI's webpage, they recommend:
#4719 High Performance Wide (rear)
#4711 High Performance Narrow (fronts)

Would the HPI foams be better suited to carpet or would they create too much traction?

2) Chassis: Currently I have the stock HPI chassis, would the Penguin Narrow / LM be better suited to racing vs the stock chassis? Would I even notice a difference in how the car handles? Would the wider LM chassis dig into the carpet on the corners and affect how it handles?

3) Motor: Right now I have the T.O Big Block in there. It is setup with a 12T pinion currently. I assume I would have to use a smaller pinion for more torque vs top end speed. Which pinion size would be recommended? 9 or 10T?

I have thought about just leaving my chassis setup the way it is now and see how it handles (tires and pinion swap though). If there was something that I think I needed to alter, then I would do it after I know that it is causing a problem. After all, why spend money on something that might not make a difference.

Feel free to submit any input !!

If you plan on racing on carpent then i would try soft to medium foams......and as for the pinion for the motor i would try a ten before you go down again.

Alrighty, I think I only have 12 and 13T right now. I think I did buy a T.O Pinion which might have been 9T. I will have to check it out again to see what I bought.

Foams sound ok. They are already mounted and trued (the dish wheels). I guess it would depend on how much under/over steer it has. If I went softs up front and mediums on the rear, would that mean I get lots of traction up front and neutral grip on the rear?

How is the track setup......you might have to try different compounds on the track first.......in the setup i ran i was using hard fronts and soft and sometimes hard rears.....traction roll sucks on the mrs4.......sometimes i ran rubbers and soft rears......when you have time i would just go to the track and try different compounds to see whats best.

Alrighty, well my only tire choice for now is what came stock on my micro kit. So we will see how well that goes (or the lack there of). Unless you have some leftover wheels in your bag of goodies that I might be able to grab from you..

I ended up buying the chassis that you and I were talking about earlier on this week.

For anyone else checking out the thread ... this is what i got ...
