Check out TowerHobbies.com, you will find that some of the top brand, totally programable chargers are still only around 130.00 US$ and some just under 100. Consider the investment.

As for upping the speed with a drop in.. if you want to stay with propulse parts, try the High Speed Motor or the Twin Motor Upgrade. Do get the spur and pinion pack, it will give you pinion gear options.
As for after market motors you can try some of the ones others on this board are using or one of these..

Reedy Mini-Max Modified

Trinity Mini Machine

or a less expensive.. TopCad Mini-Sonic High RPM
(which probably equals the Propulse High Speed)

If you would really like to increase the speed of the stock motor just bump up the pinion teeth by two or three.......Im with everybody else on the charger you want to be able to charge everything so that way you can charge your radio batts as well, that is if your using rechargeables. And you should never leave your batts unattended, thats a no go.

I'll ditto what Alfred says about not leaving batteries on a charger unattended. Well, you don't have to sit right there and stare at them the whole time. You can leave for a sandwich or a drink or watch a show on tv in the meantime . But I wouldn't leave the house, primarily because you never know when battery will go bad, despite the best charger that has auto-cut off.
But I really just wanted to say what I forgot to earlier..

Welcome to the forum..

Sounds Good

I am planning on getting a good charger. I have the 10hr charger, and it's really not feasible to "watch" it. Plus, it's really tough only being able to drive the car for 15 minutes per day. If I get the good charger, I can also charge my son's nicd 9.6v pack, which normally takes 4 hours. I almost always forget to take that one off the charger.

I might even build an nicd battery pack for the transmitter, and I wouldn't have to worry about those batteries so much.

Also, I do have the high speed motor, but I've been afraid to put it in. I had to return the car twice because of a burnt out ESC. The second time I also exchanged the high speed motor, because I suspect that was the problem. On the second car I had, it worked fine until I put in the new motor, then it started smoking.

The radioshack I bought it from is all out of replacements, so if it breaks again, I'll have to resort to the warranty.

Thanks again!

When you plug in the motor make sure that the polarities are right.......dont really know why the esc would smoke at all.....what pinion gear are you running.....another thing to check would be the mesh between the spur and pinion.

New Stuff

Well, I don't have that motor or car anymore. As I mentioned, I exchanged it all (motor, car, & battery). I think the motor was bad. I'm going to try the high speed motor tonight or tomorrow night.

If I have problems, I'll go with an aftermarket ESC and motor. Probably a mamba 25 and a 5400kv. But, I doubt I'll have problems since I got everything replaced.

Charger Ordered

I ordered the Hobbico Elite charger off of eBay for $119. Does radioshack sell the same style bananna plugs that fit into it? And do they sell the connector for the battery? I figured I would solder some of my own cables.

Thanks for the charger recommendation.

Normally rc'ers change out the plugs to deans...which is recommended, less resistance.

Not sure about RS having the same banana plugs as the charger uses but I would think they might since they are fairly universal. My charger came with a few sets so I was able to make one for each style connector I am using. But as Alfred pointed out, if you change out all your battery connectors to Dean's Plugs then you need only one charger harness. But the convenient thing about the banana connectors is that it is a screw on to the wire end. When you need them for a different type plug harness you just remove them from one harness and screw them onto another.

cheers
