ceramics in rear diff

I have been comtemplating the idea of buying ceramic balls for the hpi rear ball diff. Has anyone done this and if so what was the result? When I reassemble the diff with new ceramic balls do I need to grease it the same or does it stay dry?
I ran out of grease today for the rear diff, and I have bearing lube, lithium grease, wd-40, and that is just about it....can I use any of these on the diff?

ceramic balls

I use ceramic balls in several types of cars(Mrs4,M18,F-103,SRT,TCP,etc). They keep their cooencentricity longer, stay cooler, and help keep the diff rings truer not to mention how light they are. As for lubing them I've tried it both ways and finally I decided to only use a minimal amount to keep heat down.
As for your choices for "emergency" lube:
WD40-I don't even consider it as a lube
bearing oil-too fluid, it'll fling of (messy) and attract dirt in the diff
lithium grease-the better of your choices but still not great

might I recommend going to a auto-parts or hardware store and pick up some di-electric grease? It's a silicone gel similar to what comes with RC cars. A small tube should only cost a couple bucks.

hey Jspeed i think lubricants will just affect the way the ball diffs work. Meaning there messy, fling out of the diff, and the major thing is attract dirt. I use Dry White--it is powder based--Teflon with Cling. The best thing ever i did too my diffs.

I bought mine at my lhs. All u need to do is ask the people that work there. Usually they will have different types.

Ceramics

I run ceramic balls in my HPI rear ball-diff.
All I can say it that they do make a difference. The diff is a lot smoother. I use a small amount of (Tamiya) ceramic grease to lube the rear diff too.
I also use the Losi Thrust Bearing conversion, another great improvement.

Is this the appropriate kit for the ball bearing upgrade....it seems a little inexpensive, I thought it would be more than this.

since u have the Ball diffs already and instead of getting new balls (lol) why just get the teflon with cling and use it for the ones you have now. It will make a big difference. No lube for the bearings to heat up.

Yeah, I am going to give the teflon grease a try. I was also going to look into the possibility of upgrading the entire drivetrain with ceramic bearings. I just want to be sure that it is worth the money.

First you need to try all the possibilities at hand. Try it Jspeed a tube of Dry white only costs a couple of dollars, and if you dont like the way it performs you can get the ceramic bearings. Hey you will only be out a couple of dollars.

Alright, hopefully I can run down to the hobby shop today and get my teflon grease. I have a whole day to myself with little homework so I want to work on my micro and build some shelves for my micro workstation in the garage.

Thanks for the tip Alfred I put some grease to mi mrs4, but it gets all messy and attracts a lot of dirt. Will this teflon lube work alright with the stock gear diffs and stock dogbones?

Leave the dogbones dry! Dont add any lube, all it will do is attract grit! I do recommend Orion/HPI steel dogbones - which should also be run dry
