ESC caught on fire

So I was racing my vendetta st, complete with a permax and mamba 25 esc, when suddenly I noticed smoke billowing from under the "hood". I thought it was the lipo at first but it was the mamba 25. I quickly pulled off the body, tossed the battery away from the flames and proceeded to blow out the fire.

Why did this happen? I've had it less than a year, don't bash it (too hard), all my batteries are only 7.2 or 7.4 volt......will castle replace it??? This happened to anyone before?

You might want to send them an email or give them a call.......they might be able to do something about it. I have burned up a couple of esc's but never had them on fire.

I gave them a call and since it I've had it less than a year it's covered under the warranty. So...I'm getting a free sidewinder micro or whatever their newest ESC is.

I was not impressed with the quality of the Mamba 25 ESC when I had it on my M18. All it takes is one little short in the board and the heat will build quickly as you found out the hard way. Mine shorted out and melted the shrink wrap. I sent it to Castle and they fixed it. Same thing happened again 2 times! I finally just sold the whole car, I was so frustrated with the motor not working. I think it killed my Lipo also. I have had much better luck with the Turnigy ESC that is on my recoil. They make an 18A ESC that would work great on an 1/18 scale. It only costs $20. If I still had a M18, that is the esc I would run.
