REchargeable AA's for the radio.

Today I tried putting in my rechargeable batt's in my mini-t radio and noticed that the slot for the + side of the battery is too small. The rechargeable batts I have, the + nub is too wide wider then a normal AA. They are sanyo AA's there not that common but they dont fit. Any one else have this issue with any other brand of rechargeable aa's?
