gearing guide and final drive

this will help you better gear the car for either top end quickness or a lil of both.. and it also depends on the motor used.. usually the faster the motor can spin the larger final drive you want .. but the lower the motor spins the more power it will have to run a gearing that is closest to "1" ...

for example if you were to run a mamba 8000 then you would gear it at 10/49 while the gh3600 can be gear to run 19/41 and still be just as fast not faster but close enough to have fun with just showing one extreme to another

the chart im using is a chart someon else did i just modified it a lil to show what combinations the mesh plate willl allow for a given spur gear..

I'm just starting on the hobby and understand that a larger pinion but smaller spur will give you high top end, but low accel right?

That being said, what do those numbers mean? The higher the number, the more accel?

typically when speaking about brushless motors.. the higher the kv on the motor the larger or higher number you want the final drive to be so you can take advantage of the high revs the motor will give..

but if you have a lower kv motor then the motor wont spin that fast but will have TONS of torque so the lower final drive number is best

put it this way.. in the detta if i were to use a 8000kv motor then i would have to have it geared at something like 11 or 10/49
but if it is a lower kv motor (3900kv) then 19/41 is best

with this the 3900kv motor will be faster.. in theory

Ok... so you are saying the lower the kV the more accel but the higher the kV the more top end?

Does this go the same with brushed motors as well? (I won't be using brushless)

Thanks

EDIT: What gearing should I use with the vr3? (I think thats what its called, the supposed fastest brushed motor) Would 11/45 be good? Well maybe 13/45 dunno

One last thing:

I cannot seem to find Vendetta 49 and 41 spur gears... Where the hell do you get them?

Oh and it says in the manual, you have to screw in the motor at a dif position according to your gearing. But, the only motor mount inserts I can find online are the 2 slot ones, meaning I can only use 13T and 19T gears... Where can I find 3 slot ones?

I was mainly looking at tower hobbies, any other places that have those items?

Thanks for all the info,

Michael

your vendetta should have come with a 3hole and a 2hole.. ..

the spurs you can get at rcraceday.com or rcmart.com underson anderson mb4

the gearing for higher lower revs is still true for brushed motors..

Alright I understand completely, I found spur gears for the mini quake on towerhobbies I'm assuming these are fine to use.

Haven't got mine yet, I'm gonna order it tomorrow from towerhobbies. I cannot wait!

Ok ok thanks man, I didn't order them don't worry

I ordered my buggy today, hopefully will get it next week or at the end of this week. Cannot wait.

I'll buy some gears from my LHS maybe (if they have some) when I get it. If not I'll just buy some from that website.

i leave mamba motors alone.. they are too small.. but my guess ould be something like 13/49 for both.. just to start with.. and what i mean by too small.. is this my current motor with stock wheels can run a 21/41 gearing and is probably faster than a mamba 8000kv in a rc18t,,,

Do you have any gearing suggestions for a detta with a vr3 and an H8 9.6v pack?

anybody home?

lol I know this is an old thread but Id like to ask anyway incase someone can help. Im from South Africa and the 41 tooth spur gear will be hard to find, will running 21/45 instead do any harm? e.g heat or too much load on the motor? Im running a gh3600 with a 3s lipo
