How many of you guys running a metal gear servo with out a servo servo? How is your servo holding up so far? The reason why I asked this is the HPI servo saver kit's horn won't fit my Futaba S3102 servo.

Wow. Well I guess HPi forgot something because I know mine came with different splines.. one to fit futuba (but maybe full size futuba's since the mrs4 fits full size by default).
If your a decent driver, you should last. Losi is supposed to be coming out with different servo savers for the mini-t.
I consider myself a fairly good driver (I don't hit the walls very often). I have been racing 1/10th scale cars for a few years now and have had lots of practice. I just started racing 1/18th a few weeks ago. On my first night I was running with an HS81MG servo. I skimmed the wall slightly and my car started going all weird. The steering would not center. Ends up that I blew out the metal gear servo. It was the known problem with the plastic bushing inside the top metal gear being damaged by impact. It was shredded. The only reason I was running without a servo saver was because the LHS didn't have them in stock and tower hobbies didn't get it to me soon enough. I never thought such a slight hit would cause the servo to be thrashed. That was a $50 mistake... (yes, I over paid for that servo because I wanted it immediately).
I would highly suggest running with a servo saver. As oXYnary said, you should have had a futaba piece in the package. Perhaps it won't fit though. Not sure why it wouldn't though.
I have been using the same servo for awhile now the 85mg and have ran into car tires jumped off curves you name it and there is still no problems with mine. I dont like using the servo saver. Get the 85mg and see how it holds up for you.
Even with a servo saver the 81MG is prone to having problems after a few crashes. I personally prefer no servo savers so I use nothing but the JR DS368 now. Expensive but still cheaper than replacing a bunch of 81MG's. I've used the 368 with and without the servo saver and am very impressed by its durability. The high torque numbers has something to do with a servos durability.
