Thunderbird 9 Problem...Maybe it's me...

I'm firing my Lipo/Feiago/Thunderbird 9/Airtronics Super Micro AM receiver/Hitec HS-55 for the first time and have a weird result.

The servo works perfectly, but the motor wont fire for the first few seconds, then it starts on low power go. It will drive up as I pull back the trigger but wont stop turning. The only way to get the motor to stop turning is to put the transmitter (stock one) into reverse and hold it there. I tried adjusting the trim and also a seperate transmitter with the same result. I read thru the TB9 instructions and went thru their little programming thing with the same results. Batt checks 8.95 v. and hasnt been fully charged yet since I bought it. I also swapped the connections to the motor and also to the reciever.

Weird.....

The only thing i can think of is that your cells cant provide enough voltage to push the motor.

whats happing

Actually what is happening is the motor is always on. When the transmitter is just sitting there untouched, the motor is running as perhaps 1/4 speed. It will speed up when I pull the trigger. It will stop only when I push the trigger forward (reverse) and hold it there. I charged the battery fully and I still have this happening.

Thanks.

Chris

I think that ESC is made for an aircraft type transmitter. When an aircraft transmitters throttle stick is at its lowest position, the ESC is in the lowest position, off or idle. With a car radio, when you want the esc off, your transmitter stick is actually in the 50% position, or there abouts. I think this is why CC makes car ECSs such as MAMBAs
I hope I made this clear. Maybe someone else can make it more understandable.

Lost again.

I guess this is what I get for picking the easy route. I purchased it from a vendor on ebay. Auction was for the motor and ESC that [he was] "told these with work in the Losi Micro T 1/36".

This certinally has not been an easy road for me. I was doing my best to follow along with the Cap'tns Lipo Project. I just didnt want to spend $100 on a esc.

heres the link to my loser auction:

crap.

Hey! cheer up pal. your not doing too bad yet. Check with CC that have reconditioned mambas. They might make you a deal you can't refuse by trading the Thunderbidr on a reconditioned manba. Might work out pretty good.
Altough I am not convinced the AM radio is going to like a MANBS esc

I used an un-caned Team Novak XXL 27MHz AM when I first put the Mamba 25 in my Micro-T as a temporary receiver while I decided if it was a keeper or not, it worked perfectly with the Mamba.

Hm reconditioned Mamba’s if they did that might be just the thing, I need a couple more. So far I’ve been pretty lucky and managed to find three of the four I have for around $50 but they do seem to be harder to find at a good price these days, and there are fewer used ones available that you can get without a worthless car or unwanted motor attached to the deal.

Update

Thanks guys.

I contacted the seller and this was his response to me:

"This system is sold with racer in mind, and you have to use a different separate receicer . The most popular setup is to use a GWS Pico receiver and a Hitec 55 servo. Mark "

I dont think he wants to understand. I'm using a really nice Airtronics super micro receiver and have that servo already. We'll see what his reply will be.

I'll contact CC on Monday.

As far as performance so far, the top end speed is impressive, but the ESc gives it a slow start up. Zero posibillities for any wheelies. Also, it seems like im getting interfernece, at 10 yards distance.

Have a good weekend. If anyone has a used mamba to sell or trade, just let me know. Ckozlik@newarchery.com

If you are getting interference then the only thing i can suggest is to go to FM......make sure your wires is all tidied up.......and away from the antenna.

GWS Pico receiver
That's a plane receiver... He's telling you that you need an airplane radio system.

For a quick solution to the problem, try programming the "idle" on the ESC while the throttle trigger is at full reverse.

SIlver Supra: GWS makes a PICO RX on the 75 band, I have one, it works good. But that isn't gong to help Ckoz5.0, his best bet is to try the programing you suggested.

I tried. This ESC only has a brake on/off as programmable. No throttle position.
