Mamba and the IBS

Hi to all. I have a IBS Pro coming this week along with a Mamba 6800. Should be fun....I am contemplating getting lipos, if not I will probably just make some 7 cell gp packs.

I am curious if anyone has used a brushless in their IBS and how well the drivetrain holds up? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

well, i just got the ibs, and so far i have not found any motor exept the trinity motors that will fit that stupid motor mount. i did install the pro rk 370, but only with one screw, comes loose on occasion, but works great up until then. i dont think it will fit. i have the money to buy the mamba, and was going to until i saw the motor mount, and they dont make any others exept the alum. one but it has the same holes in it. let me know if yours fits. if so i will but the mamba .

I will try and make it work

I did notice the junky motor mount and will probably just make my own. I ordered my spyder from tower and it is taking forever....I chose the cheap shipping and got a arrival date of 3-03-05 :( So I won't have an update on the fit until then.

That's rather short sited of Trinity to design a motor mount like that.
Can the standard motor mount be modified (Dremel/drill) to accomodate other motor types?
I'm sure that in time people like GPM will make a universal motor mount for the IBS

i did drill a hole in it to fit it to my pro rk 370, but now the bolt i used is in the way, and i had to use a smaller pinion gear. i also ordered the mamba, and it is supposed to be here on thursday. i will make it fit one way or the other. the problem with the mount is the mount its self if you hold a 370 motor up to it, you can see the holes on the out side of the motor. it just is not wide enough to just drill new holes. my motor had 4 holes, so i used like the top hole on the motor, and left side of the motor and drilled a new hole for the top none. you may try this, it has worked for me so far.will let you know how the mamba works.which one did you buy?

Mambas

I have two Mamba25 systems.
A 6800 kV in my M18
a 5400 kV in my RC18T

I wont bother with a 8000 kV unit, it's just too much for a Micro scale RC

I ORDERED THE COMPETITION ONE OFF OF TOWER. I BELIEVE IT IS THE 6800, BUT NOT SURE. IT WAS CHEEPER THAN THE COMPETITION X PACKAGE THOUGH. HAVE YOU GOT YOURS IN YET, AND DOES IT FIT. I WILL BE TICKED OFF IF IT DOESN'T FIT. ACTUALLY, IT WILL FIT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. IF I HAVE TO CUT OUT AND DREMEL A NEW ONE OUT OF ALUM, JUST DONT KNOW IF IT WOULD STAND UP TO THE POWER .

a graupner speed 300

Hi Eric, I managed to get a Graupner 300 on the stock motor mount. I noticed that the second hole on my motor was outside the stock mount so I just ground the area down a bit and used a larger headed screw to secure it and used the stock location for the other hole....it works great....lots of tumbles down a flight of stairs did nothing to it, and it meshes perfectly.

I did this on my xray m18 with the stock mount too. I have had the car for a year with a ridiculous amount of runtime and it is perfectly fine.

As for the mamba, mine hasn't shown up yet, but I have read that the newer version of the motor fits the stock mount easily. I happy to say that my speed 300 I run for 10 bux is tons of fun with 6 or 7 cells.

Here are two photos of my IBS w/ Mamba... I haven't had a chance to finish it yet:

nice

Sweet truck. I am dying to get my mamba in....I hate waiting. Which mamba did you get 6800 or 8000?

turtle 03-05-2005 12:22 AM

I have the 5400.. + URC custom 2100 mAh LiPo pack.. should give me a decent runtime. :D

lipos are next for me

I was looking at some 11.1v lipos today, very tempting. I almost walked out of the lhs with a charger and the batt but I wanted to go home an play with my mamba...mine finally came in...the 8000kv.

To my dismay, I have the r133f receiver that has problems sending a strong enough signal to the mamba esc. I sent it to Castle Creations for a hardware update.....hopefully it comes back soon.

The 8000 Kv actually has less torque than the 6800 Kv
As an owner of a few RC cars, from experience I can say the 5400 Kv is the ideal solution for most Micro scale trucks. I use one on my RC18T
The 6800 Kv is more than fast enough too, got one on an M18 and it's a rocket.

I'd like to know the outcome of the 8000 Kv on the IBS, as in how driveable it is, how it performs at low speeds, climbing etc..
I know it will wheelie on demand :D

jaejw1 03-05-2005 04:07 PM

well i have the 8000 in my rc18t,, and i cant make it wheelie,, it will do so if i hit a bump... but my gearing is set for top speed,, i just changed to a 13t from a 15t,, and we will see what will happen,, i also have a 60t spur inside,,

might have to switch to a 11t pinion to see any reall torque...

but the 8000 with a cap is fast and quick enough..

Traction56 03-05-2005 05:07 PM

just curious jaejw1, what kind of battery setup are you using?

Before I sent off my mamba esc I tried out an 8cell 1100 pack, I haven't seen tires balloon that much since I first got my 2.5 nitro rustler
