esc glitching?

Just changed the motor on my pro-pulse, it's a 17T trinity mini monster. I'm still running the stock esc and the motor has a heat sink and fan mounted on it, i'm running a 13T pinion and 54T spur and have observed no overheating. The problem i'm having is glitching, the car just goes WOT and stops responding to the Tx.

The stock esc is rated at 80A. i'm sure my motor doesn't pull that much current. I also noticed that sometimes if i touch the tx antenna i get WOT and when i let it go it stops. I did notice the glitching started after i change the motor though.

It's possible that the motor is causing inference, that is why some motors had capacitors on them.

The motor has surface mounted capacitors. Does anyone know how to reset the esc?

How close is the esc to the motor......have you tried moving it to another location.

genitor 05-11-2009 10:11 AM

The esc is just behind the motor, didn't try moving it. I just made sure it was as far as far away from the receiver as possible. So the esc being close to the motor causes problems? It's in the same place when i had in the stock motor.

Here's a pic of my setup.

Another thing you might want to try is to clean up the wires a bit, have you tried changing out the Xstals........

genitor 05-11-2009 10:50 AM

What's the xstals?

alfred 05-11-2009 10:51 AM

Frequency crystals.......you can find them on the RX and radio........you might want to try another freq.

oh ok, i don't have any extras. I will have to get some and try that.
I rearranged my wires a bit and now the esc seems to have stopped glitching but now my servo is. But that might be a problem with the servo, it's been giving trouble off and on.

Let us know how the new xstals help out.......

you could try moving the rx on top of the battery plate. (basically want to keep your esc, servo and wires as far from the rx as possible) tighty twist the battery wires and most importantly the esc to motor wires. check the caps on the motor to make sure none have broken loose, cold solder joints, etc. i would try reseating the crystals before ordering new ones. lmk

My servo wires are too short for the rx to reach the battery strap. I'll twist the battery and motor wires, I already twisted all other wires, I also reseated the crystals but it didn't help. Does anyone know how to reset the esc?

sonicj 05-11-2009 09:23 PM

i don't think the esc has a calibrate function...
