Which company do most ppl buy their electronics from?

froggie
02-08-2002, 11:25 PM
No, you don't have to buy then separately, you can buy your electronics at the same time!

The kit comes with a motor, beyond that you will need a radio system (transmiter and receiver), speed controler, steering servo, batteries and a charger.

Strider
02-08-2002, 11:25 PM
i just meant if the car came with the transmitter, esc ...etc.

Kingtooshy

Kingtooshy, don't get your panties in a bunch and take a joke!

Check out www.towerhobbies.com

Micro $100
Futaba 2PH radio comes with the transmitter, receiver, servo and speed control $80
MRC Super Brain $47
Orion 7.2v $34
Paint $4

So for about $260 you could have a very nice micro. But be prepared for the hop ups!

Kingtooshy
02-09-2002, 12:03 AM
no they need a special charger

Strider
02-09-2002, 12:04 AM
Do all those stuff come together with the futaba radio? so all i'd need to buy for the electronics is that?

Strider
02-09-2002, 12:05 AM
i didn't mean using that to charge the lithium batts, i mean if lithium batts are better

Kingtooshy
02-09-2002, 12:05 AM
electronics means esc"speed controller" , radio,receiver

froggie
02-09-2002, 12:07 AM
Lithium batts are a light weight, high capacity battery but charging them is challenging. Until there are chargers designed specifically for lithium batts at the power ratings needed for r/c (6 or 7.2 volt 1000+ mAh), I would not use them as a primary power source. I did wire two lithium cell phone batts in series to get 6v 900 mAH and charge it with a niMh charger. Fun, but inconsistant.

Strider
02-09-2002, 12:07 AM
er.....ok just answer this

do you get all that stuff as a set with the futaba radio as froggie said?

Kingtooshy
02-09-2002, 12:09 AM
no frogie is dumb u buy all seprate and 900mah is low capacity smart one try 1800mah aa or 2000mah sub c

Strider
02-09-2002, 12:11 AM

Kingtooshy
02-09-2002, 12:14 AM

froggie
02-09-2002, 12:23 AM
Strider, I'm trying to help you out, but Kingtooshy appears to crave conflict over substance. You can get lithium batts at a higher mAh, I just happen to have two cell phone batts. And as i stated, I would not reccomend them as a primary power source for most people.

The Futaba radio system comes with the transmitter (tx), receiver (rx), esc (speed controller) and servo as a package. Then all you would need is the batts and charger.

The Orion 7.2 v 1100 pack is an excellent power source for the micro if you plan on upgrading the motor. Be advised that the stock motor will not last long at 7.2 volts, so the 6.0v Orion pack would be a better option if you did not planon upgrading the motor. Options here are the Graupner 300 ($15), 280BB ($35), HPI modified or the Orion Big Block. Each provides a varying level of performance.

If you want more info, send me a PM. I will not tolerate Kingtooshy's ignorance.

if youre steping up from a miniZ your handling will go through the roof! especialy in the brakes department. you do need to spend somewhere in the $250 range to get setup right. when we get newbies joining our group this is what 90% buy:

micro kit
futaba jr or a sport if they cant afford the jr (you can get it bundled with 1 servo and a 230 esc)
rayovac 1700mah NiMh batts
rayovac ps4 charger (if youve got a miniZ this do your AAAs too)

this will get you up and running, you can decide on upgrades once you get used to the car and see how everything works. i race and win with the above mentioned setup. ive seen no reason to change any of those items. the only aftermarket stuff i use is an hpi ball dif and steel dogbones.

i thought you were saying that had a miniZ and were thinking of getting a micro. my mistake. i just did a side by side comparo before we switched to the new board. ill post it here in a minute if you want to read it.

Actually i might not get it until december when i go to hk cause i still need to find out how much these can seel for in hk...

runtracer
02-09-2002, 01:12 AM
the last time i checked they went for $84 in HK (for the kit that is) if you wait till december (man that a long time) and hang out here you should have plenty of knowledge by the time you get your car! or at least a good head start, when i got mine all i knew was what was written on the box! lol. good luck.

I would go with anything Airtronics. Another thing you can consider(Ican't remeber if you already have your mini-z or not) is if you can find out what frequency your mini-z is on, you can buy just an AM receiver. There would be no radio to buy because you would already have one. That would save you about $90.

I've looked at over 30 places that sell micro's and the best price (if you think about tax and shipping) is $99 at microrcshop.com (http://www.microrcshop.com/Catalog/Car%20Kit/Car%20Kit_products.htm) however if you're from cali :(there will be tax:(. Nothing else at that shop as good of a deal. I should mention what is vague on there site, only the UPS ground shipping is free.

As far as radio systems go. I recommend getting a Airtronics Blazer or Futaba Magnum jr. setup. You can get one used on ebay from someone upgrading for under $50 (US not Canadian, Hong Kong, Cuban, or Box tops:D) if you look hard enough. You could pick up a less advanced Airtronics Blazer Sport or Futaba Magnum Sport system for 40 new (or 30 used on ebay). If you are too cheap to buy a micro servo for 20-30 dollars (I recommend Hobbico CS-12 $22 (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXPB32&P=0) or Hobbico CS-12MG Metal Gear $28 (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXLN97&P=0) both from Tower Hobbies) then make sure the radio system comes with a standard servo. I personally got a used Futaba Magnum JR. with rechargeable batteries and a recharger and two sets of crystals for 51 dollars after shipping was added. It didn't come with a servo, but I wanted to get a micro one anyway so it didn't matter to me. If I got it all new from Tower Hobbies it would cost 66.99 (radio) +8.99+8.99(extra cystals) + 21.99 (hobbico batteries and charger) = 97.97 plus shipping. The only difference is mine was used and didn't have a heavy servo so I got the Hobbico CS-12MG Metal Gear for $28 plus shipping.

for an ESC I’m using a old heavy dinosaur that I got from my girlfriends dad, I haven’t gotten around to buying a permanent replacement but I’ll probably get a El cheapo Airtronics ES-01 for $25 or a Team-Orion FLASH for $50. any sugjestions?

and for batteries I use alkaline rechargeable cells that I got at a wholesale club with the recharger for under 15 bucks. alkaline batteries are 1.5 volts so in the stock battery holder it gets 6 volts (4*1.5). I'm going to order two real 7.2V battery packs, a charger, and a big block motor when I get the ESC. but I've been spending all my cash on a $250 dollar pink chair  for valentines day.

Feel free to criticize my chooses (even the pink chair), just give reasons.

:eek:OH:eek:, if anyone cares here is the chair (http://www.unicahome.com/catalog_item.asp?ItemID=7166&group=panton%20chair&BTC=283)

Both of us are big fans of design and we have wanted to get a Panton Chair (http://www.unicahome.com/catalog_item.asp?ItemID=5184&group=pantonchair&BTC=339) for a while and I figure the limited edition pink one should really appreciate.

TGRupert, the Panton is excellent, and coincidentally I'm actually friends with the owners of Unica, the site you referenced!
