Alarm response, I get to drive my work vehicle like my rc's hehe

I have done this for about 8 years over the past 15. I do this for a while until I got tired of graveyards and did something else. Right now I am doing days, which is cool, but I don't respond to many alarms now. More updating info, getting cars to shops..... so basically I am an office lacky lol. At least I get to go racing more now..... And I get hockey playoffs off without question because I am the goalie and team player and all (man done that speach too often haha)

I've never gotten to play with Beowulf. How many nodes are your clusters? We had a slick ~200 Sun Ultra 60 node cluster at 3Dfx doing FEA for us. Even with all that power, our tape out process (board design heat / interference /electrical simulation and testing) took about 2 weeks.
Too bad they took a dive. 3Dfx was a great company to work for.

Anyhow... I despise linux. I love freebsd. OS wars anyone?

I've always said FreeBSD is for people who love UNIX and LINUX is for people who hate Microsoft.
Yes, I am a BSD convert, System V UNIX shells never quite did it for me.
LINUX being a mixture of both technologies just clutters things up.

This should give you an idea of what we are capable of:

Erm, not really. The one bonus is that Intel give trivial items away, like T-Shirts, pen sets and other propaganda.
I get the occasional Pentium-4 or Xeon MP processor and board free from the "Big-I" too, but it just gathers dust in my study.

Most of my work is consulting, usually months in advance to the project being accepted or installed.
Once accpeted, Project Management take over the installation process and I kind of move on to something else.

LOL Its fun when your in the same crew with your buddies and your best friend is the crew leader. I also traded my micro for a tc3 which is a car my dad was gunna buy... Taco bell will help fund my rc stuff yay. so I paid for mostly everything this summer exxcept driving class. so im happy lol

Basically design automated production machines for the automobile industry support all our company's plants in North America. And when not doing that at work, then its project management. so the micro is just kinda a side hobby to kill time between the gym and the girlfriend. but its a pretty cool hobby, now it will have to share time with the Emaxx.

Thanks Havy! I know... I TOO blow most of my money on my micro.... We kinda have similar interests I guess. When I'm not doing school work, I like to tinker with my micro (It's working, but my girlfriend says that I "break" it just so I can put it back together... Nonsense!) :D or I like to snowboard (obviously during the right seasons) But since I've moved to Sacramento, I love to go water rafting whenever possible! My friends no longer want to go with me though... just because two of them bailed out last time and had um.... "intimate" experiences with rocks... pushaw!

Gotta say though, I started with a digi-q, got sick of that, went with a bit char-g, got bored with that and now i'm at the micro stage... at this rate, i'll be eyeing one of them 1:5 scale monsters soon... Maybe once i'm a physician, I can finally find a cure for the r/c bug bite! I dont think the hobby would be as fun if I had unlimited funds, for me, the anticipation of the latest and greatest gadget or r/c design usually exceeds the actual benefit of it, but that's true with everything, hell, look at pc hardware, I upgraded my computer from 1.1ghz to 2.4ghz and didn't notice a damn bit of difference unless I'm playing a game, the computer is still limited by the slow ass harddrives, lol

Ummm, where do people get the notion that MD means unlimited funds. If you think about it, you are lucky(which I'm not), your going to owe a tun at the beginning of your carreer. (school loans, major $$$$$$$$$). If you wanted that relaxed practice in a small town when you know everyone and you have time for a life, you can't, because you owe alot of money......

So relaxed, hmmm, no...... major money, hmmm, if I bust my a$@ and don't have a life, yes. But I will be destined to life modestly, I surf, that's like a way of life, got to learn to pace yourself. No I wont be rich, no unlimited funds here, but I will be helping others, and living my life........

 ....ohh never, mind my bad......

Fringo, I got a nitro the other day, but I'll be honest, my micro will be faster and I like it more!:D

havy

BLiND
08-16-2003, 07:23 AM
I wasn't referring to the MD profession as meaning unlimited funds, just the mention that having more funds means having cooler cars, means having more fun in the hobby ;)

I think its the opposite, doing more with less is how I usually go about things.

hell, up until last year I was running a Nitro RS4-2 in the sportsmen mod class running an $85 XTM engine in it and I was beating people with $850 cars, just because I had driven my car for almost 2 years and knew how it would run and take any corner ;)

practice is worth more than hop-ups, IMO.

havy
08-16-2003, 07:34 AM
Yea, my bad. I just think that sometimes because I get it alot. he he....... .......me I'm broke and in debt, he he......that's why I chose the micro:) . And I hope to be competitive w/ my LD3 using the same principal as you Blind. The only thing I plan to change on that car is the settings and the tires:D .

I got an interesting job... Well, it used to be.. Now I basically hate it.. I used to work for a big financial institution, but now I work for a major I/T company (doing the exact same thing).. I more or less run several major data centers, design and build SAN's, NAS storage, Troubleshoot problems, etc.. Really boring for the most part.. However the other half of my job is as a Forensic Analyst.. Sounds REALLY cool eh? Well, in a crisis, it is kinda fun.. mostly it sucks.. But basically we catch Hackers, Virii, etc..

I previously was an Engineer/Graphic Artist.. and it kills me to not be able to do that stuff much anymore, that is what lead me to the R/C Hobby.. I've designed and built many of my own hardware and designs. Currently I have a T-Maxx (entirely customized) 2 micros (1 is more or less stock, with a Big Block and SPY ESC, the other is a Brushless Pan chassis, total custom), I also have 2 micro heli's (one is a hornet, the other is a Hirobo), and I have 2 1/10th Tamaya buggies from back in the day.. One is a "Frog" the other is the "Grasshopper" oh, and a Tamaya Mitsubishi Pajero, though they don't run anymore.. and I have a Kyosho Mini-Z which I race around at work when I'm bored or when its quiet, which has been really rare recently.
