What are you ideas for the low buget racer?

My cost efective hop-ups are as follows

Hand cut graphite chassis, graphite stock is about 15bucks for enough for main upper and rear deck. Ratzaz has good photos for modeling it after and from what i here they sell cut offs.

A bearing in the rear diff. A big big help in smoothing things out. 4 bucks

FOLLOWING what people say about the front diff assembly mine is as smooth as silk but its too fragile for the elite.

Lithium ion batts 45 bucks two batts and charger off ebay. light wieght, small and cheap.

lose the rear spring.

Lexan under guard 2.50 bucks.

decasing electrics.

I know many of these have been said before but I thought this thread might help some of the newbies out and get all they need to know in one place.

Those are some good ones. The spring for the rear depends on the surface your driving on.

I myself am cutting a pan chassis out of aluminum. I could just buy one, but this way I save myself about $15 and I get to customize it.

Speed 300, ARM Motor Plate and a 5 or 6 cell battery. At our local track we have a guy that can beat anyone using a completely STOCK micro with only a speed 300 and an upgraded battery.

yup...Speed 300 is the best...:D

As long as you don't over voltage them and keep them warm too.

otherwise look at the replacement plan:

buy it, use it, burn it, repeat

I'm using 6V and running high speed for around 5 minutes or so....it gets warm but not to the point that I can't touch it...so its great....

Another low-cost hop-up: a handful of bottle rockets strapped to the roof.

those might be "low cost"

but when you hit something...and in ten thousand piece...i think it will be the "most expensive" hop up you ever did...:D :o

rcca did an article a little while ago on 10 low budget micro hop ups.

I saw that, most were under a buck and i think one or two cost more.

The one out of ten idea that I liked was the gear guard...

very interesting...

I think 10 of those cheap mods, we already know what they are...

cut chassis
gear guard

oh no...i can't remember the rest of them...:(

Lowering the chassis with washers
cuting the chassis
gear guard
extra o-rings on the rear bodymounts to make them more stable
ball bearings on the belt guides
a ball bearing in the rear right hub
a belt tensioner hanging off the right rear upper deck post
lower the electrics to the main chassis
no loss connectors
cut off the steering stops
cut off the bulge in the upper deck if you don't use the stock batt box

Thats all that I remember (I cheated RCCA march 2002)

cut off the steering stops.....does anybody go that far??

svenhoek
03-10-2002, 11:51 PM
They say its for more steering but i usually run my steering dual rate at about 50% or even as low as maybe 65% at the 1/10 carpet track here, so I cant seeing it being that important

TFRMicro

TGRupert

TFRMicro

so you have no dual rates or anything?

but you have so many hop ups....ah...

you should spend some money and get a decent radio...

I know, everyone tells me that, but I spend lots of money on tools too. Im saving up for the multiplex 403 right now, im not going to spend a dime besides wires and deans connectors. also, if I sell all my low end radios I could probably get one high end, having 4 radios and all,lol

TFRMicro
03-11-2002, 04:27 PM
4 of them.....ya, if you sell all of your radio...you could get a Intermediate level radio...

xxtcrgp
03-11-2002, 05:01 PM
ya but ill wait until i have some money then sell them so I can get a good one

TFRMicro
03-11-2002, 06:35 PM
which one are you looking for??

why don't you get the Futaba combo one....the 230CR one with the FM radio or something for like $80??

xxtcrgp
03-11-2002, 06:52 PM
Because im going to get the multiplex 403
