well, i got my xray ball diff. today and have encountered some serious problems with it.
unlike the the composite diff. the ends of the alum. one do not have flanges for the plastic endcaps. the end caps are the plastic bushing things you put on your diff. after the bearings.
without the flanges the endcaps just fly right out of the diff. housing and spin around my driveshafts.
i'm gonna email XRAY to see what the heck is wrong here.. i don't know why they couldn't make the alum. diff. the same specs as the composite one.
they really messed this one up..

Any pictures of the hopups you got?

XRAY: two ball diffs., alum. driveshafts front and back, 42t spur, motor mount

United RC: K3 300 motor, 6-cell KAN battery stick

Novak Spy ESC, Airtronics MX-3 radio

gonna finish putting the thing together tonight.. if those stupid end caps actually stay in place.

Have you tried it without the plastic end caps?

Maybe they weren't meant to be installed with the ball diff?

The reason for them is to keep the plastic outdrives from flexing and thus breaking. Aluminum is a good bit stiffer and shouldnt break, it also isn't as brittle as plastic.

10th scale plastic outdrives often have such rings around them too.

My guess is they are not ment to go on there.

Patcollins is correct. The outer rings are to keep the plastic outdrives from spreading apart. The aluminum outdrives do not require these rings.

Where did you get the 42 tooth spur? I can't seem to find them.

BTW G'ZOX are you racing tomorrow at Hobby Central?

the diff. if working great. i still have my stock one in the back, atleast until my rc-mushroom order comes in...

i got the 42t from rccargods.com when they had them in stock a week or two ago..

i had to go the AZ this weekend, so no racing for me. i'll definetly be out there the next time tho. how was the 1/18 turn out? enough people there to race?

Yeah, there were eight or nine micro cars out there yesterday and it was pretty fun.

Hi,

The diffs are very very nice! The gear diffs were already very well made, but the ball diffs are even better :)

I only have some troubles adjusting them as I am not used to ball diffs, but that will go away with time :)
