I just hooked up 8 cells to it and I don't want to fry it. Shortening its lifespan is okay but not killing it right away:D
Here is a pic of the set up

I just hooked up 8 cells to mine with the Elite mod and it got the motor so hot that it melted my motor tab and it broke off again! So I switched over to a Speed 300 and that thing flies. Now I'm looking into getting one of those Brushless airplane motors and slapping on some more cells.

A lot of brushless motors will let you run 12 cells, or even more.

Well I took a shot and ran it. Wow was it fast, then it died. Moral of this story, don't run 8 cells with the elite mod. Gonna call Orion monday and beg:D

Oh yeah I forgot to tell you.I ran 8 cells with the Elite mod and it melted the tabs right off. That's why I ran the 300

check out all the posts about brushless motors using the search feature also check out the posts from hk-en. he used a B20s motor I think. you also have to be very carefull about what ESC you use, cause a lot of them are crappy (no brakes or long delays).

airplane motors...ahhhh now we're talking!
how much are we talking now?$$
what happens if you use a regular car ESC?

Well a brushless motor requires a different ESC than a standard because of the programing I believe. For more info I would suggest searching for threads that were started by HK EN.

In terms of price. The B20 motor is about $90 and an ESC to run it is around $250.
