Anyone here that lives in north georgia?
I just want to know, because there are a lot of on-roaders at my local track (like 20 or so people). I was hoping there are more micro ones, becasue then my local track could probably hold races for micros too (I only saw one or two 1/12 scales in all.)

Don't think anyone lives in GA here, but if you do, speak up!

I live around the top end of 285, and I know of another guy that lives just northwest of the ATL. That makes 4 of us. Is that enough to race? I think so...

If I can get him to post here that will make five of us.
Now its time to find a place to race (haha it rhymed)

So, there are three tracks in Kennesaw. One offroad for 1/10 electric or nitro. One onroad outside paved for 1/10, 1/12, 1/8 nitro or electric. One indoor paved for 1/12 or possbily our 1/18 electric only.

I think he only charges $5 to practice all day as long as there are no races, and I don't think he is holding anymore races indoors now.

I think I will head up that way in a little bit and maybe Alex and I can take some pictures of the tracks.

Well, like I said there is a track at the local hobby store. My brother has pictures that we took today of the three tracks. I'm not sure how good the indoor track would be for some of us running the stock motor. It seems a bit large for us to be effective, but who knows, I just got this thig. I don't know if that's what you want to do or not, since it seems a bit far for some of you.

My brother and I just had a little fun this past weekend. We were just in my parent's garage running the cars. We could always try that, since anyone can get chalk and we have some cones to use also.

BTW I can't get my link button to work...any special way to use it. After I enter the text, it just clicks through the link box. Also, since there are no html tags allowed I can't do it the oldfashioned way.

hawk_196
05-25-2003, 09:32 AM
Well I gotta finish up re-sizing the oudoor ones (photoshop just wants to screw up, so that's why its taking so long), but I got the two indoor track pics.

Oh btw,
Since most of us are in the suburbs in various places outside of atlants, why don't we try and find some kind of a track in atlanta? Maybe next weekend or something we could check one out (if there are any at all). But as far as I know, there aren't.
But we could always make our own. All we need is an empty parking lot and some chalk...
hmm.... what about that one outside your apartment dave? maybe, maybe not... but its worth a try.

Radio Controlled Toys for Boys in Kennesaw
2220 COBB PKWY NW
KENNESAW, GA 30152

You can find it on Mapquest, but its simple to get to. Just take 75 north to the Barrett Parkway exit. Take a left at the ramp onto Barrett. Follow it down until you hit 41. Take a right at 41 there will be a Carmax on your left at the light to turn. Head down 41 and go through 2 lights. After the second light pass by some of the shops and on the right up on the hill is the track. If you pass the fire station you went one building too far.

Oh, NightCruiser,
Columbus is pretty far from kennesaw (north of atlanta). If you feel like you would like to drive 4 hours to meet up one day, you can, but you don't have to. I don't think it would be worth it because me, kickind, and my neighbor all have stock micro's. I'd wait until all of us have some pretty fast micro's, but then again, its your choice. If anybody knows of any other micro tracks close to Atlanta, please sepak up.

I'm officially going to check out the track in Kennesaw. I'm bringging my 540 hybrid with me and my watt-age 300 motor setup and maybe two of my freinds here will come with me too.

hmmm not sure what time. I'll be get there sometime between 10 and 12. You guys can come anytime in the morning, doesn't matter really, just as long as you stay most of the day.
Its been pretty rainy here... mostly cloudy, scattered showers. I think its moving away, but I'm not so sure. Still pretty wet here, but the track is indoors, and the outdoor one should be ok to run on.
So does anyone have any knuckles? Its ok if ya don't my bro's getting ready to upgrade to the aluminum ones.
Hey vette.
If you want to bring your xxx-nt you can. They hold offroad races on sundays, and on-road on saturdays. But its the same guys running there, so you could just ask around if anyone wants to race. I'll bring my rusty along too...
I'm still pretty bummed about my bro notbeing able to some, but he says he gets off anywhere from 2-4... but that's in buckhead. Maybe if you guys stay really late (to like 7, when it starts getting dark... Who knows?).
Well I'm finished.

If it rains, I will not able to go. My fast and furious car can't handle wet terrain it always end up hyroplaneing. Well all the hop-up cars hyroplane on wet road anyways.

The 540 hybrid is crazy fast. The tires will worned out so quick. It's unstable and hard to control. The only thing I can do to it is Drag race with it to any nitro cars or trucks. Your guaranteed to win because it accellarate faster than a nitro.:D ;) :p

Bad News Guys....
Well I called him today to double check the store hours (I thought it was 10, but I wasn't sure)... Well I also added that a bunch of guys will be coming to run some micros. Grrr..... Well he holds onroad races ONLY on sat. and offroad ONLY on sunday. Well I was like.... ok... but we won't race, (there really isn't a class for micros.) And then he says in indoor is off-limits raceday... Only weekdays... Great. Well is anybody up to re-shedule to a raceday, or are you guys still gonna come to check it out. I guess we could meet up there and head off somewhere else to run the micros... I can't think of anything right now. Or if you still want to come and maybe ask for a micro class on the outdoor track (quite a laugh though because you guys have no idea how big this track is. Well if you still want to run on it...), but that's only if its not raining. Not looking good for us guys.
What do you guys think?
I just hope you all see this in time.

GREAT NEWS! I asked him again why it was a problem to run indoors during raceday and he said all it was was frequincies. The races actually start at 3:00-4:00 so we can still run as lond as its in the morning. But even better news is that he said if you guys show intrest enough he could set up a lap counter inside and have us all get transponders and we could race any other day of the week. I agree...but with the scattered weather patterns today....and sudden family obligations....it was kind of hard.

Instead of doing all comms through here and on AOL (which i am not on), why dont we start using email? Someone should create a "flyer" for the next day....giving times, Frequency checks, direction and lhs phone numbers. also weather options as well.

hawker,

I will be out of commisson for a couple weeks.

Just leting you know.

go to www.unitedrc.com....or use the following e-address and let me know you are interested in the lambo body. I will email you when i get them in.

oh cool.
I'l be getting the lambo and the LED set soon.
You can email me when its available if you want but I don't care (gotrice_196@hotmail.com).
I don't yet have a way to pay you yet seeing how I don't have a credit card... (no paypal). I'll let you know as soon as I find a way.
But I do need some opinions on a paint scheme.... Should I paint a cool two color body or keep it nice and classic with one color (it is gonna be my show body after all). I also might add exaust. I'll keep you guys updated.

P.s. if you guys want to race every friday night, you just gotta show some interest to fernando. he will set up a micro class on a weekday (weekends are 1/10 onroad/offroad, so it cant be then), preferably friday. I think it would be pretty cool to race because I've never before (the offroad guys are extremely competitive, and fast), so it would be boss to race for once. He will hook ya up!

Ok I'm gonna buy the body and the LED kit. The site said it would be around $30 shipped for both items. I'll send the money thru check in the mail with everything needed (should be out sometime tomorrow).
Dang then I'm buying the dogbones which means that's $12 out of my wallet leaving me with about $17...
Man I gotta mow some lawns (apparently nobody needs me, they all have their special mowers. grrr....).
Well the money will be out tomorrow.
Thanks.
and peace out.

i have good news (talking to anyone who replies).
well because winters starting to come (hey i said starting) the offroad guys will stop racing. It happenend last year (partly cuz of all the rain), and I'm sure it will happen this year. The good news is is that it now frees sunday up for races. So if you guys would like to race, but friday is not a good day (rather it be on the weekend), then this is your chance. I'm sure fernando would be happy to start races for micros (he's had them before... before he made the outdoor track and before he renoated the indoor track. It used to be a fun track and it used to have ozite.) if you guys show intrest and make this a regular thing.

EAST SIEDE!!!
sorry, ahd to do that cuz theres nowhere to race on the east coast.

I just remembered about the sugar bowl. (charlie brown halloween special just got flipped on in the house. You'd understand if you visit www.sugarbowlrc.com)
Well I checked their race schedule and it seems like the socal of the east. Sundays would be the day to go, but unfortuanetly they only have a 1/10 and 1/8 roadcourse class. Hopefully if you guys show enough interest mostly by posting on this thread, then we might be able to persuade the owner to make a 1/18th class.

NEW carpet track BACK at TFB.
Now that its winter, offroad is out and onroad is going crazy.
Sat. at 4:00PM - 8:00PM, possibly later (touring + 12th scale (18th maybe???) on the indoor OZITE carpet track)
Sun. at 4:00M - ?? (Outdoors on the asphalt track (10th + higher scale)

http://www.tfbraceway.com

Now you guys got what you want, right? Saturday nights on ozite indoors?

I'm gonna check this track out soon.

Anyone still following this thread?

I have gotten back into RC via the Micro. Managed to get 3 other coworkers into it as well and my father has one too.

So... is anyone doing anything? I am familiar with Toys for Boys and the Sugarbowl (used to race nitro on-road at the bowl).

My coworkers and I have built a wood/pvc course that can be put up in a parking lot easily (we are looking at getting some ozite to have when we can find an indoor location).

I am interested in getting together for fun runs and such. We are trying to keep all our cars stock with 5 cell Team Orion NiMh packs at most. This keeps it cheap, uniform and slow enough for newbie drivers to keep from destroying their cars.

I was at TFB a few weeks ago. Typically, the indoor carpet scene dries up starting about march. That's when the on-road guys start moving outdoors to run on Saturdays. I would imagine that Fernando will still setup a Micro class on Saturdays indoors (while the indoor track is still running - probably till March) if enough people show up. But, as someone said before, he might even put together some sort of racing on friday nights. He wants the race entry fees folks, he'll support the racing.

Also, I know nothing about the scene out at Fun Time Hobbies. I heard he had a track for smaller cars but I know nothing about it. Could be an alternative to Fernando's on Saturdays (or when the indoor guys move outside when the weather clears).

Please add me to your mailing list - starwars1138@hotmail.com if you have one. I think we should get something going. If anything, get a local hobby shop to support a micro class.

Hope to hear from you all soon.

Hey good news bad news time.

Good News - I'm still folowing this thread.
Bad News - I don't think anyone else it.

Good News - The winter is completely onroad season. Saturdays have indoor races, Sundays have outdoor races (not sure ATM because he just held the tri-state nationals). We could run on either Saturday or Friday, just depends on wheter you want the track to yourself (Fri.) or having other classes running and other guys there (Sun. and theyre mostly 12th scale but there are a couple 10ths).
Bad News - Well I'm not sure how long indoor onroad season is gonna last. Yeah probably until April or before that, depends on the whether.

Soo if you guys want to come up every Sat, then that'd be cool. I'm right down the street from it so I'm available, along with KickinD. This could be like a regular thing if you guys really want.

Visit http://www.tfbraceway.com for more info and pics.

Cool. Glad to hear from other local Atlanta folks!

It might take a few weeks before the rest of the gang is ready to run. Personally, I prefer to run along with everyone else like in a regular race program on saturdays. Though admittedly this is probably more than the other guys who are with me can handle just yet.

How late is the track open on friday nights for practice. I find the best what to get people better at driving is to get them on the track.

We'll see. Post your email address up here so I can keep you posted on what we are doing. I'll post here as well just to try to attract other racers as well.

I have a hobbystore near Georgia, its in the Anderson / Greenville area in S.C. We specialize in mini's. We have a very large RCP Mini Z track that is a Tri-Oval + a road course. Outside we have a large off-road 1/16 1/18 scale track. We are located on 29 Hwy about 4 miles north of the Anderson Jocky Lot.
Here is a link to my website and another link to some piccs of the off road course.
