YES, YES, YES,. FINALLY........ A NICE SIZE WITH BANKS EVEN SLOT CAR
RACE TRACK IN A BIG SLOT CAR RACING PLACE.
I did talk to the owner and the major manager and THEY is WIDE open to
Micro RS4/ MINI-Z racing....Open arms is he. MAJOR RAISED TRACK...IN
FACT 2 OF THEM!!!!!! I have thought about slot car racing tracks for
racing Micro's/ Mini-z many many times. So I thought "why not ask the
guys if they are open to it" The "higher ups" just happen to be
there....smiles were drawn when I proposed the scenario of racing RC on
those slot tracks. Yes, the SLOTS are in the slot tracks but the micro
is big enough that that likely will make little difference in the
preformance.
I Have talked about laying a temporary "overlay" over the track IF
something like grooving may make a difference in the driving. The slot
car tracks are very well made. Profesinoally made with BANKS and a
bridge. In fact 2 race tracks are in the same big building. It is worth
it to drive a number of miles to race there................RACE DAY???
GLAD YOU ASKED!!!!
APRIL 22...7 PM (MONDAY) "TENATIVELY"
......yep, some taking was had by me and the higher ups. Turns out that
they were talking to a few that bought Mini-z's (mostly the Formulas
F-1) The smaller TIRE width of the stock mini-z's had small trouble
"grooving" the slots in the slot track a little, but it was not a huge
bother. The owner suggests foam tires. I think there is a place where
you can get foam tires. The softest compound would be best but since 4wd
is in application it should not be a huge problem.
MONDAY..........APRIL 22nd...San Jose and surrounding area: this could
be a wonderful regular race location and nice effort was made to work in
cooperation with the slot people. Many poeple who has the slot cars have
mini-z but we won't talk much about that stuff. The track can be
actually seen at this web address. www.slotcar.net www.slotcar.net

At first I thought a slot car track would be too narrow for the 1/18th scale cars. After going to see it in person, I think it's almost perfect for the micros. Unfourtunately I did'nt have my car, so I don't know for sure. The manager(owner?) of the store does seem very into the whole r/c racing idea. He thinks foam tires are the way to go, but considering that they spray traction compound on the track, I think even stock rubber may be o.k.. I am curious about what classes there will be, but I guess it really depends on how many people show up on the 22nd. Hopefully when Kev comes back around, we can set up a practice event to give us an idea on how to take on this track. Looks great so far though!

OK..here it is.........

On running the track I have found that the straightaway is a bit slick...I am running a modified car and it is a good Idea to "set up" for the first BIG bank.

1st bank: Is a great one!! its high and sticky. You can go low and realy stick nicely or you can go high and shoot down the inbankment to the second turn.

Second turn is a bit sharp as it is almost 90 degrees. its about 70 degrees to the 3rd turn wich is also about the same.

4th turn is 90 degrees that goes into a very brief stretch before you get into the 160 degree turn then OVER THE BRIDGE

Then its to another 90 degree turn TO THE STRIGHTAWAY.....set up for the bank and your off to another lap.

The room is "interesting" on the track....its just about right for a 4 car race....very confortable for a 3 car race.

5-6 cars would be very "interesting" to say the least. but FUN!!

WE can set up a practice day if you like........and getting the speedster guy (Henry) there would be great also..he is curious about thet track also and racing against each other would be very cool.

Its a racetrack for "drivers" and not really for pure power..but all that helps.
