I just opened up a new hobby shop in Vancouver, WA that has a carpet track with Micro RS4 racing classes.

what are the classes gonna be? stock and modified? what will the requirements be? How much does it cost? post everything you know, cause i'm pretty interested.

Camas Hobbies

Lap time is $3.00 per hour. I don't have all of the classes worked out yet, but it looks like stock Micro will NOT be a class. The track is 67' x 28', and that is just way too big for stock. I think that it's going to be mod 5 cell and mod 6 cell, but I am going to leave that up to the racers. Racing will be $7.00, but I don't have a schedule worked up yet. I've been leaving it up to all that are interrested to tell me when they want to race. Stop by sometime and mention this post and get a day of driving for free.

i stopped by there today and it was a real nice place. I would assume it is comporable to most other indoor micro tracks, but i've never been anywhere else, so i wouldn't know. Everybody there was EXTREMELY nice and very helpful, also very tolorent with all my questions. It really is a place i could see myself at every weekend.

The few parts they had were VERY well priced. Even though they don't have very many parts, the few they do have seem like the most important (motors, bodies, paint, diffs, etc.)

What i'm trying to say is, if you live in the Portland Vancouver area, stop by, you won't regret it.

We are located at: 1902 SE 6th Ave

My track is a FULL SIZE track with 6 1/2' lane widths. The dimensions of the track are 68' x 28', and I hope you at least have a 5 cell with a stock motor (mod motors work best on this track). I look forward to seeing you- the track kicks butt for micros.

Yeah, that's a good point. You can bring your stock motor with AA's to RC Hobbies and run on their mini-tracks, and then bring your mod's over to my track and run with the big boys.:D

I can't honestly say that I've ever tried the mini-tracks, but they do look like fun. I just can't see how you could possibly run a Ratzas pan with a big block on one of those little things.

If you did have 5 people in from my shop they must have been talking about my 1/24 scale track since that was the only one available back then. The one person I had in from your shop said he hated being mowed over by a TC3 1/10 scale. I didn't get their names, but the guy doing most of the talking was late 40's to early 50's, about 5'8'' tall with a full beard. He was quite specific about the track being for MRS4's though. As to micros getting ran over by 1/10 scale, the track isn't open to both classes at once. The ONLY time that you will ever see that happen is at private events (cub scouts, etc.). You can see 1/12th scale running with the 1/18 at the same time (practice only), but that is pretty common across the country at carpet tracks.

Hello, as Jack of Camas Hobbies will confirm for you, I am the 12th scale race directer at Camas Hobbies. Jack's prices are extremely good and really can't be beat. I know, I work at Hobbies Unlimited, I know the wholesale prices on everything, and Jack does not make much money on his items (if any at all). His Micro RS4 kits are only $100. At Hobbies unlimited, they are around $105 and I shutter to think what they cost at Ultimate Hobbies (Janzen Beach). The Carpet Track that Jack has set up is perfect for 12th scale and fast micros. If you have a fast Micro RS4 or at BRP 18th scale car, then Camas hobbies is where to be. I mean no disrespect to RC Hobbies, but I've seen pictures of your track(s), and they are too small for my Micro RS4. If you want to compete with Jack, you are going to have a hard-time, cause people like fast cars. Jack has a track that will accept 12th scale and 10th scale as well as 18th scale. And guess what, most micro owners (like me), also have larger scale cars. You have a nice little track for stock micros to bash on with your friends, but it just can't compare to Camas Hobbies.

Okay, then can you get me a TXT-1 for less than 318.99? Cause if you want my business, that's what you'll have to do (I only pay wholesale for my stuff).

I don't work for Jack, I volunteer for Jack. I do it for the betterment of the R/C community. So therefor my bias don't nessesarily have to lay anywhere. But, yes, I do have a bias towards Jack's track, because: It's bigger, it has wider lanes, it's ment for faster Micros (I like speed, what can i say?), it has everything I want in a track.

Now whether, the pictures I've seen are of your "new" MRS4 track, I can't say. But from the pictures I've seen thus far, your track is not up to my size standards for the sophistication and performance on my R/C vehicals, be it 18th scale or otherwise.

Go ahead, tell me that you carry Ratzas' complete line and that you will undersell me- complete B.S. Or even Powerline, or GH, or Eagle Racing- not gonna happen. You CAN beat me in GPM pricing, because I will never sell their stuff; why buy cast aluminum parts when you can get good quality machined.

After watching you track/shop owners bicker and smacktalk on here like twelve year olds, it's no wonder why neither one of you can get people to patronize your stores, and you both have to beg people for their business. Seriously, is nickel and dime cut-throat price-wars the only thing you have to offer your customers? Are you guys having a contest to see who can separate predominantly young hobbyists (and their parents) from their money the quickest or something?

Sounds to me like your both in it for the quick buck, and I'm surprised you have time to even post here between calling each others shops incognito, playing secret-squirrel-price-spy.

It also explains why RC racing is basically dead/nonexistent in the northwest and why I'm glad I live thousands of miles away from either of you.

Great fun to watch though......don't stop now:)

PS-for the shop that says" I'll beat any price, if it's not below our cost", do you provide proof of your cost in writing(like a copy of the check/CC invoice you used to pay for the item, preferably with the same name on it as the person on the business license), or do we just have to take your word for it? Maybe you provide one of those nifty but useless distributor's billing invoices, that don't show the net 30 stuff, that the suppliers send as a decoy with the product, so even your employees don't know "your cost" when they open the orders??? In your mind, are all hobbyists stupid, or just the ones that you catch with that rusty hook? And as for the other guy, if you want to post nudie pics, do it somewhere else, there are alot of kids who surf this site and if that's what your into you should go over to that favorite shop of yours and all go in the toilet together and look at that stuff in the privacy of your own crapper while writing HTML code.... matter of fact, you could admit to each other that you know nothing about running a hobbyshop nevermind an RC track, but since you're all such experts at nudies and HTML why not go into pornsites fulltime instead, it's a great way for perverts to make a living.

Dude, I really don't know what you are talking about. Basically, I posted on this site just to let people know that I had a new track, and that it was open. I haven't been the one posting my site address and making statements about how my pricing can't be beat; as a matter of fact, I think that I've done a pretty good job of not resorting to that petty level.

As to being into this for the quick buck, I can assure you that this is not the case. I just retired from Intel and am basically financially set; this is a HOBBY for me- not a profit maker. I got tired of having to drive 70 miles to the closest carpet track to drive my cars when it was wet outside (in Portland/Vancouver you're talking about 9 months a year) so I decided to build a track for myself. So far, (and you can ask) I haven't charged anyone for lap/race time, and am still not sure that I ever will. My prices are either very good for kits, or are FIXED PRICING from the manufacturer- and I will not ever sell online. I offer free repairs (just the price of the parts) to anyone that is willing to watch me fix their car; this way I can explain how/what I am doing to help further the knowledge of people. I offer the use of an Iwata airbrush and compressor for free to people that want to paint their own bodies but don't have the gear, and have given out a 18 page booklet with every body I have sold that gives tips/directions for how to spray out bodies.

As to RC racing being dead/nonexistent in the NW, you are absolutely mistaken- it's alive and going strong. I don't need to "beg people for their business", I am amazed at the amount of people that I have coming in already- especially since there aren't any signs on the building yet. By posting on this forum, I had hoped to attract other people like myself who wanted to race, but didn't want to drive 70 miles to do so- not to increase revenues.

Great to hear all that, but I could have sworn you told another guy on here you charge $3 bucks an hour for practice. The rest of it sounds pretty good, though. Just know that when you make your hobby your business, sometimes it takes all the fun right out. Been there done that.

Everythings cool here, Rupert, what's it take a riot for you to post something these days??

No apologies offered to anyone, though. They had it coming, and I happen to have been in the biz for several years, so they made themselves easy targets. When your doctor gives you a shot it hurts, but it's for your own good. Besides, I was in a pissy mood. Anyhoo, there's a 2-meter sailplane on my bench waiting to be sanded and my micro is in pieces so...........

Yup, I said that I'd charge $3.00 an hour for practice. I'm a firm believer that you can give something to somebody (like free lap time), but you can't take it away (advertise free lap time and find out I was losing my shorts so then start charging).

I still am at a loss as to why you feel I "had it coming". The last time I looked, this post was originated by me to let racers know that there was a track available to run on; put yourself in my shoes. How would you feel if you had done the same only to have another shop jump on your thread with comments like "we will beat our local competitors pricing"- that kind of quick-turn a buck mentality pisses me off just as much as it does you.

The other post you quoted wasn't me- I'm sure he'll defend himself if he wants to.

My take on it is this,

If it was a barfight, even though he started it, the other guy was already down and out and you guys continued to stand there and kick him in the stomach and one of you even started molesting the waitress just to show off.. the bouncers would come over and crack all of your skulls, and ask questions later....that's life.

Keep the practice free, guys will be breaking ten times the practice fee in parts alone, never mind that they'll become better drivers (which will make them steady customers for many years) and will soon be buying the best stuff in order to be competitive amongst themselves. Not to mention you may even get a kid into it who might end up a world class driver, and he'll always remember you and your shop as a major reason for his success. So will his mom and dad, and all thier friends, and other racers, every new up-and-comer from then on, etc.etc..

Good luck with the track....It's a great hobby and it sells itself.

huh? are you talking about me being AWOL since friday? I was upstate with my grandparents in Saratoga Springs. I finally saw Apocolypse Now Redux. I missed it when it was in town. I can see just about anything in the city, but the train ticket costs 11 bucks. a brand new theater opened up a few towns over. they play foregein films, documentarys, revivals, indepenant films. the mest pat is it's kind of a multiplex (three screens).

I'm a hothead sometimes, and that original sting may have been more piercing than necessary, then again maybe not. Know-it-all ? Me? Hardly. I'm an idiot. Need proof? I paid $119.99 for my micro from my LHS, and was glad to do so. I own a phone, a computer and ten credit cards just like everyone else and could have bought it online. Why? I know what it takes for him to keep the doors open, and provide a track for us morons to play on.

It is beyond me why any shop that offers the facilities and services that you describe should have to compete wth high-volume mail-order discount warehouses in order to keep its customers happy. Whether , I'm there just hanging out or buying stuff, or racing, all I know is I always leave there with a smile on my face. It's an escape from the drudgery of a working-class life. If he uses that extra $20 to pay the highschool kid who works afternoons, or puts a few more parts on the wall or even uses it to buy a 12-pack and cigarettes on the way home, I could care less. To me it's chump change. Yup, dumb as balsawood, that's me.

Mr. Jeepinator, all I can say is, I'm deeply saddened knowing that you and I will never be friends.

Good luck to all of you in your future endeavors.

I want to know if this guys shop is open still also!
FYI Downwardspiral9, the guys who were accused of "arguing" w/ Camas Hobbies on this thread opened a store in Milwaukie, OR. I've been there a few times and they're really nice guys. They're supposed to be opening a track soon but if I remember correctly, they said that it was going to be for 1/24 scale cars only, not the MicroRS4. Their website is
here. (http://www.microrcracing.com/)
Where do you race in the Portland/Vancouver area?

I visited the shop in Milwaukie as well. They seem to have a bunch of stuff and the guy that helped me was nice. He mentioned that he was going to open a new track but did not say for what scale.

FYI, I was at Microrcracing.com 's new track TODAY and had a BLAST. Only problem is that it is a small track for 1/24 scale or smaller only.
One guy was running his Micro on it and it looked like fun BUT, add 4 or more cars and it would almost be unraceable. There just wasn't enough room...
I did run my ABC DTM X4 on the track for a while and had a great time, while it lasted... I was having some mesh and diff probs so I didn't get to participate in the "fun" race that they ran to test out their lap counter.
For the test races, there were all sorts of cars running. A couple of Mini-Z's, a Kawada Mid, an ABC DTM X4, and (believe it or not) a couple of Mini-Z Overlands! I spent the time wishing I was racing :(
Either way, I'm gonna fix my car probs, and race there as often as I can.
The link to their racing schedule is HERE (http://www.microrcracing.com/raceschedule.htm)
I hope to see you all there when the racing really starts up!
