View Full Version : Hit the boost?

I've been toying with some ideas...

CO2 can be mounted in a bicycle pump mount, and then a valve could be attached, and controlled by a third servo...

So... the 2 options for output, are either, to have a nozzle out the rear, which would provide thrust, in the form of air...

OR

extend the shaft of a motor, out the rear of the endbell and mount some kind of turbine... Doable, but could take some more thinking :-)

What motor would survive like, 40k rpm, or somethign around that range? Or anything more that it's used to...

AND ALSO, would spinning a motor faster than it's input voltage fry the ESC?

Be sure to install strong schottky diode and ESC should be unharmed.

As for increased rpm, there will be only more brush bounce, (ball) bearings have to survive that easily for a few seconds. Schottky would take care of the excessive brush bounce voltage induction spikes, but there is still some probability for a glitch.

What's the best "overall" BB motor that I could dissassemble, and extend the shaft (out the rear of the motor)?

UPDATE:

I've got my list of parts that I have to find now.

- CO2 (12 gram) cartridge holder, used in paintball.
This should have 1/8th inch threads on it...
- Piezo-Electric valve, that has 1/8th inch threads, and will work on a servo plug.
- A motor, that has a fan, that fits a Micro. I've seen them around, and I realised that I don't have to MAKE a turbine, if there's already one in the motor.

So... if you happen to be browsing around, or know of these parts already, i'd be exstatic (really), and give you credit for finding the part when I make my final writeup.

Except, have you ever learned how an electric motor works? If you try to accelerate past it's nominal speed, the motor will be working against you. It's a function of electromagnetics.

If you wanted to make a pure boost effect (like a rocket motor), you could accomplish it by swapping all the bearings in the drivetrain to one-ways. Then the car could drive away from the effect of the drivetrain, but come right back on line as the cylinder is depleted.

I like your ingenuity. Keep working on it!

That's good to know... I didn't know that they made one-way bearings...

Lets say the motor was in it's "neutral" state... without any acceleration or decelleration... would it allow itself to be rotate much faster than usual?

I'm starting to get other ideas for the CO2 though...

Do you remember speed racer??? He had these sweet pistons that came out of the bottom of the car and made it jump... I wonder if that would work with a micro by venting CO2 out 4 nozzles (one on each corner of the car...)

or if you were racing side by side with someone... and you happened to have a CO2 nozzle on your sidepod, and happened to blast it at his car, and happened to make him spin out... (although, if it's out the rear, if you had a guy tailing you, it would have a pretty good effect anyways.

brushless motors can spin 100k rpm.. you;ll have to talk with a manufacturer about an extended shaft though..

yeah, like the ones you use in the model rockets that you just start with an electric current. course they usually have a blast at the end to push out the parachute which means that it'll blow the body off...........but.........holy #*~`you'll be haulin ass when you finally blow up...huh? stop!!!! just stop!!!! will somebody stop him!!!!!!

also anyone want to date these two? they're really lonely!!!

How much are you asking for an engine? how much for fuel? do you have a website? Once I get price, etc. I will call. You order by phone, right?

Chris S, I don't sell these myself...

This is just a listing for a place in the here in the US that sells the Jet-x engine. It appears that they don't have a website so you will have to call them for pricing...
