I have been using a Futaba 3PJ for about 4 yrs now and really like it. It does take quite awhile to figure out how to move through all the menu options it has though.

I also have an M8. No, it's not really heavy, it might take some getting used to. I know that I went from a futaba am radio to a M8 (FM) and I haven't glitched once since I've had it.

just think of a radio in your car, whats the difference between AM and FM am is more fuzzy not as clear and FM is very clean and clear

PCM + Pulse Control Modulation
Having extensive background and knowledge this would be very hard to explain in text. Basically PCM is a digital signal using 1's and 0's in the signal pattern. It's much less prone to glitch than even FM. Main reason is that even if a portion of the 1 signal gets interrupted it can still be defined as a 1. This is because as long as its part of a 1 its not 0. Okay enough with the babble, order of precedence for least amount of interference:
PCM
FM
AM

You can email me off the list if you really want me to go farther into this. :D

xxtcrgp

the xr3 is pretty good but the 3pdf is about the same price as a M8, lynx 3d e.t.c which have all the same functions but 10 model memory

You owe it to yourself to check out the HiTec Lynx 3D. This has to be the best bang for your buck system out there and can be had with the dual conversion DCX receiver and Spectra module which eliminates TX crystals. Every time I use this radio I fall more in love with it.

I'ld recommend the JR R-1. I have one and contrary to what others say its not that heavy (at least for me) and its far easier to program than any other computer radio TX. It has all the features I can think I would ever need in a TX and it looks the part of a high end computer radio unlike the cheap looking/feeling Lynx 3D (which I like features wise just not looks wise). I sold my old Futaba 3PJS (which worked fine) and got the JR R-1 and have not been disappointed since. I use JR for all my r/c aircraft and have never had any problems so I finally ditched the Futaba in the cars as I find I like JR equipment much better in terms of glitch free performance and quality plus JR has a full 3 yr warranty with their radios. You won't be disappointed.

I still say the JR

I hightly recomend that you heed to my advice. Micros are little electric cars that bring so much fun. This is because the batteries last so long and the car needs so little maintianance. Yes, it's fun to lace up your car with purple and blue parts, graphite everything, and top of the line electronics... but the car is so fast just stock- just pop in a good 6 or 7 cell and your micro is flyin'!
That is why I love using my good 'ol CX2P. Not the one with an LCD screen, but the one with knobs and buttons. Heres's why:
-Because they it is fairly old, they are fairly cheap. You can buy a used one for less than a bill.
-Because it is not fancy- with all the backlighting, features, and LCD like other transmiters, you can buy hella cheap batteries and still last a while. Both my bros use M8's and they have to use rechargable batteries. I use cheap $2 for 12 ones that last almost 9 times as long as they would last when my bros try using them.
-It is durable therby making it very reliable. I am the proud 3rd owner or my beat up CX2P.
There you go. One does not have to spend a fortune to have quality products- As long as you have fun... and have decent driving skills:)

Servos are like any other electronic on a micro- as long as it works. What I've found though is that size does not matter. I try to weigh down my micro anyways to get better traction. The only thing that is a must is a good 6 cell, and up, battery

How small is the receiver for the R-1??

is it the R-200 receiver.?

Mugen96
03-04-2002, 04:36 PM
Yes, the R200 is the smallest reciever for the JR FM radios. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that it is also the smallest FM reciever on the market, but I could be wrong. I think it is still just a hair smaller than the Novak XXL.

Dan

xxtcrgp
03-04-2002, 04:40 PM
it could be close, i know that the R200, the xxl, and the shreader are all tiny!

fuse01

the R-1 came with the JR330 (1024) receiver.. so tiny and cool.

Another vote for the M8, very easy to adjust settings.

Mugen96
03-09-2002, 04:49 AM
I think that the shredder is smaller, but I don't think that you can even get them for the JR FM. That woud be why I am sticking with the R200. But for the most features and the best radio on the market, the R1 beats everything hands down!

I think the R123F Futaba 3PDF receiver is pretty small..

smaller than my R113F...

haven't seen the R200, Kopropr mars one, and the M8 one....

anyone know which one is the smallest??

hahaha....when we now buy a radio...we don't need alot of function...we just want to know who has the smallest receiver...:D

Mugen96
03-10-2002, 05:25 AM
If you go and look at the buyers guide on here it will give you the dimensions of most of those. I still think that for the best package, to include one of the smallest recievers on the market, the JR Racing R1 or other rand FM radios are some of the best out there. The M8 from Airtronics is nice as well, but just not my cup of tea. I think the R1 and the M8 have pretty much the same features. The biggest difference, and the one that is the clincher for me is the full graphing display on the R1. That is one of the nicest features to me. Its one thing to do the same on the M8 with percentages, but it is another thing to actually seed a graph of what it is going to come out like and have the percentages..<grin>
