I dont get why people spend 25 or 30 dollars on battery packs that are wimpy 900 mah or something like that? Today i went to Target and bought 6 1800 MAH rechargeable batteries for 14.99. I already had the shrink wrap stuff from my LHS, cost 1.99 for a foot of it. Then i soldered the batteries together and arranged them to fit how i wanted them to in my car. Then i just put the shrink wrap over it, blow dried it for a minute and i had a high quality 1800 mah battery pack for my micro that cost 17 dollars. I could almost have 2 of those for the price of 1 i could buy. Maybe some people just cant solder? I dont know but its easy, custom and cost almost half as much.

I've bought 2 of the Team Orion 1100 mah 7.2V packs and now that I've spent all that money on them, I've realized that for the price I paid for the both of them, I could have made 4 or more custom packs. I guess I was just too lazy to make them myself. Whatup - how exactly do you solder a pack together. I've never done it before and I'm not sure how to do it.

well when im to lazy i take it to battery plus and get them to do it for me. To make a pack all i do is shoo goo the batterys together in the sequence i want, tin the ends quickly so you dont get the batteys to hot, connect the battery bars/wires, and add shrink wrap if you want. Its acually quite easy.

Doesn't sound too bad. I'll probably build my next pack.

when you are soldering, make sure you don't have the soldering iron touching the batt for more then 3 secs when you are make a connection...

The reason I went to 2/3 AA Nimh's is #1 weight and #2 size, as far as runtime since all I do with my Micro is race it and our qualifiers are 5 minutes, mains 15 minutes runtime is more than sufficient.

Even though I could still save a little going with individual cells vs. prebuilt packs, i actually bought 2/3 Nimh cells from battery connection or whatever that one web site was and the batteries had a hell of a lot less voltage than the Orion packs ...and again with using my Micro strictly for racing given the above parameters, I am more worried about voltage and IR than runtime. Not to mention that the extra 1/2 hour or whatever time it is to build a pack I can use to do something else ...like get my motors ready for the Speedworld Cup :)

Yeah....I agree.....why buy 500 gallons of gas when you only need a gallon to get to the store. Our races are only 5 minutes and i'm getting about 8 minutes out of 2/3a nicads using a speed 300.

Exactly!! I'm using 2/3aa's 750 mah with plenty of run time..

If you get those 9.6v packs rip them apart and you got a customized pack too

I have 4 six cell ofna brick packs that I race with at my local track. However there is another track I was gonna try out, but they only allow 5 cells in the mod class due to the size of the track. I really didn't want to spend the money on the ofna bricks again. Instead I stumbled upon a deal for brick cells. They were actually a 4 brick cell cellular phone battery. Each cell is a 1.2v 850 mah Nimh cell. I was able to pick up 40 cells for $23.50 with shipping. The only catch is you have to tear open the battery case, then disassemble the battery packs and then reassemble the individual cells. But for $23 and a bit of time I can make 10-4 cell packs, or 8-5 cell packs. If your interested the website is www.allelectronics.com
They run $2 per 4 cell battery or $1.75 if you order 10 or more. I don't expect them to be as good as a well known cell manufacturer, however for stock racing, fun racing or just plain bashing they should work great.

The above cells are also slightly smaller than the Ofna cell due to them only being 850 mah.
