Hey gang,
I'm going to do a shameless plug right now. Were feverously matching AA and AAA cells over here, and will have our MicroPax available next week. For more information, visit...
http://www.spyked.com/micro_pax.tpl
Our testing has shown that these cells REALLY out-performed the normal AA and AAA NiMH cells that you buy over the counter. The voltage is higher, and you know the runtime BEFORE you buy the pack. Good cells are just as vital (if not more) in 1/18 cars as they are in 1/10. We think we have a great product, and were looking forward to getting reactions from you all as they hit the shelves.
What kind of numbers are you seeing compared to the Orion 6vor 7.2v packs I am running those now but Orion does not seem to care about matching. Their response to me was and I quote " we carefully select our cells not match them" They still charge top dollar for these packs and you have to "trust" that you will get decent# Will you be matching 2/3a cells?

Spyked, these look great, will the cells be available unassembled? Also, how big of a run are you doing, just a limited few or will there be plenty?

I would like to see about an A2/3 pack. This is what I use and most of the people at the track. We also have someone that is flashing new cells to make better run time and voltage.

what is flashing a cell?

Were working hard to keep up with demand. In the last few days I've got a few hundred pre-orders.
One of the most-asked questions has been the one "yourmicro" asked. Were going to look at matching loose cells, but that adds about 3 steps to the process, and might make it too expensive.

Not sure what flashing a pack means, but thats what he says he does. The batteries are better when he is done.

i know it lowers internal resistance but thats the extent of my knowledge

I've never heard it called "Flashing" before.
Zapping is a process that lowers IR, and raises voltage.
Were the first to the market (to my knowledge) with zapped AA and AAA cells specificly for Micros.
I'll post a comparison to the Orion packs on our website tomorrow.

kick ass i want one of your packs

I think the word "other cents" was looking for was "zapping". This is a process of dead shorting about 100 volts into a battery. I've seen this done before and claims are that it raises runing voltage and lowers internal resistance.

Guess I should read all of the replies first. This was covered by spyked, sorry
You are just trying to get your post #s up. LOL;)
Has anyone used the word spyked for batt packs before you Spyke? Maybe you can get a Trademark on it before someone else steals the idea. Heres some advertising.:)

yeah thats a funny pic but a good one for spyked

Interesting pic... =)
You WILL NOT find a matched battery that isn't zapped. It's just about the only way to get cells to perform well. Some call it VIP, or VIS, or VMAX, but it's all the same. Take a lot of volts, and run them through the cell really fast. Everyone has their own method of zapping, but I think ours is the best. =)
I'm kicking production into high-gear. I've had a lot of pre-orders in the last few days. Get em in quick if you want to be one of the first...

How much do you think a matched set of 5 loose cells will go for?
Kingtooshy
02-08-2002, 06:43 PM
how much for a 12 cell loose?

Initially, we are not producing loose cells, just packs. I imagine that we'll get on loose cells towards the end of Q1.

Thanks, Will you post some sort of annoucement when that happens?

I'm still using the stock battery case and have to get a couple of battery paks. what are run times comparitivly and what kind of top end proformence and acceleration is common compared to a hpi or team orion battery pack. also after a year of use could i send it back and get it rezapped if I payed shipping both ways and included addressed envelopes? I saw one of these zapper things online for about 150.

Actually Squat makes zapped NiCads, we just got a few sets recently and I've been testing them but haven't yet decided how much I like them. I'm still very excited about your packs though!

I asked if how much better they were than rechargable packs. and many aftermarket products are worse like heavy metal rims.

TGRupert: I'm going to pretend for a second that I don't own Spyked and reply to your question.
It's better than a pack made up fo rechargable batteries you 'd buy from the store because it's been hand-selected with racing in mind. Whenever you buy something for RC racing that was made with RC racing in mind, you get a better product.
Ever but a stick-pack from K-Mart or Radio-Shaft? NOT fast!

I understand it's faster, I just wanted to know if anyone ever did benchmarks on standard packs verse matched pairs. doesn't need to be your brand.

does the spyked pack uses those 2/3AAA cells?

I'm not sure that we will ever use that cell. I checked the voltage on about 5 different cells, and found the two that worked best. Thise seemed to have the runtime, but lacked on voltage.
There are a few different cells I have yet to comb through. We'll see!
