Is there something I should be looking for in a radio?
What differences are in an AM and an FM radio?
Anything else I should know about radios?

Hi,
I have a cheap AM radio, it does the job but the next radio i buy will be a spektrum, 2.4ghz digital spread spectrum is the way to go, its just not cheap.
I think in a couple of years, all radios will be offered with 2.4 dss tech though, prices might come down then.

Just listen to an AM station, you will hear crackling and popping noises, now with FM you dont, but both bands do glitch. Also with both bands you will need crystals or a synth rx, and Spektrum does away with both of that.

I look at how many models I can run with one radio, and how much extra RXs are, and what size are they. And I ask my fellow racers and bashers what they like about the radios they have.
And Fm is a great upgrade.
I like the Jr racing line of radios, but spectrum is runnin ga special on the DX 3.0 were you get 2 RXs with it.

I believe that the Airtronics MX-3 radio is still the best value on the market today. It is FM, has 5 model memory and has more than enough features and programming to keep you happy. If you don't want to bother with crystals, then I suggest the MX-3s synthesized version. I am using this radio and highly recommend it.

2.4GHz DSM is becoming a new standard. Futaba is now marketing their FASST system instead of the outdated synthesized modules. Team Losi includes their own 2.4GHz radio for the Mini-LST2, and the new MLST costs the same as the old one that came out less than a year ago with a synthesized FM radio. The 2.4GHz radios use less power, so the Losi one uses only 4AAs instead of 8AAs. If I were you, I would try to find one of the older Spektrum models, since they replaced their radios with different-looking ones.

FYI: Airtronics now has the MX-3FHSS which is digital Ghz like the Futuba.
Many people don't understand the Spectrum uses analog a to digital system which slows down the true potential of what a modern ghz radio could do. That and that the spectrum system runs at less secure and slower reaction rate than the FHDSS system that Nomadio, Futuba, and Airtronics have choosen.
Here is Nomadios rep discussing it:

Personally, Im waiting for the micro receivers from Nomadio which will make getting the React system I crave more inviting (minus the cost of buying 2 micro receivers :( ).
Yea, I guess I am a fanboy. ;)
