ATTENTION As of now i will sell the battery tie down for 5 dollars(plus shipping which should be like 3 dollars).I can also do other colors (blue, green, orange, red I think is what the store carries) but that will cost 8 dollars since it's more 'spensive. If you wish to buy one contact me through PM or email.

Well I just got one of the buggies and have decided to make some custom parts for it, seeing as I have accesses to a laser & plasma cam cutter, heat forum (i don't remember the name), and a metal shop. Most of the metal parts will probably just be sheet metal stuff, but I also want to make a roll cage for just messing around. All of the other stuff will be made out of plex or heat shrunk styrene.

I will have picts up of the before and after of all the parts and probably some of actually making it

Plex stuff:
Shock Towers
Swing arms
Spoiler mount

Metal stuff:
Bottom skid plate
skid plate for swing arms
battery holder
heat sinks for motors
maybe a spoiler
maybe a body for jumping

For the Styrene stuff I'm going to make a mold of the stuff so I can make multiple copies...maybe some selling on ebay perhaps:
Body
Spoiler

hell for most of the metal stuff I could probably do multiples of that and sell them.

Well here are the Auto CAD drawings and the actual battery tie down. One is for plex (laser cutter), and one for metal (plasma cam).

Metal body doesn't sound like a good idea. Good luck with the rest. Megatech already has the aluminum parts set out. You should compare the quality of yours and Megatech's before selling it, because I'm sure that their aluminum parts aren't even as good as GPM's.

Constructive criticism is always welcome, but just throwing out negative statements at someone's creative ideas doesn't really have a place in a forum.

So why does a metal body for jumping not sound like a good idea? You might be right but just saying it without any reasons is not helpful, just negative.
Who knows? None of the bodies currently on the market do well on jumps!

As far as megatech parts, have you even personally seen a megatech part let alone tried one? Doesn't sound like it. Yet you already have denounced them to be inferior to GPM. Again no reason, just negativity.

And what generation of GPM parts are you referring to? GPM has greatly increased the quality of metal-alloy and other parts used in their manufacturing process. (due to constructive criticism, a large number of returned parts and a need to stay competitive in the US & European
markets, they have greatly improved their after-market parts.)

Lastly your comparrison of ranar's stuff to to megatech was certainly not meant as a compliment:
First ranar is talking about making parts from Styrene and selling them. Styrene (a type of plastic) would be a unique venue. As far as his other parts why are you comparing them to anyone else? He wants to make parts and sell them on eBay, there is no reason for him to make comparisons, his stuff will either sell or it won't! so, try to be less negative or why even post?

Personally I wish you great success ranar!

thanks for the support. And i don't see how a metal body would be bad. It will be made out of sheet metal, and the bends will make it strong. SO compared to any other body the weight to strength ratio would be really good.

Hey no problem Ranar, that is what custom parts is all about. Trying new things! Personally I'm just starting to make my own wheelie bars and bumpers among other parts, out of 7075 Aluminum. I just think the prices of current products are beyond reason! Good luck to you and maybe you could post some pictures of the completed parts.

yep maybe even tomorrow I will have a skid plate done or a spoiler. All depends on what I can do along with the robot I'm working on for a class.

It's been tried before... Lexan has a lot of flexibility. Metal that wouldn't crumple at a small crash would weigh too much as a body. Instead, how about a functional rollcage? Those look awesome on buggies, haven't seen much of those except on trucks.

I have made the tie down already just haven't uploaded the pics. And probably tomarrow have a proto of the swing arm guards.

Oh yeah and another semi realted thing. Is anyone else (besides me) running a NON-Propulse battery pack. I'm running a 6 pack 7.2 v 1400 mAh (which is Identical to the upgrade) and I got it for 24$ at http://www.marinrc.com (shameless promotion)

Wow NICE work! So what kind of access to this machine do you have? I mean can you make custom parts from time to time? In an unrelated story: I have a team losi 7.2v wall charger but nothing fancy. I have made the tie down already just haven't uploaded the pics. And probably tomarrow have a proto of the swing arm guards.
So are those sub-c batteries in that stick ? I did not think the Propulses were big enough for one of them!

Thanks for all of the postive feed back. I didn't get to doing anything else in the custom parts department because I had to do a lot of work at school. But I did finish sanding down and painting the stock body. Does anyone else like monster?

oh yeah I don't need a charger anymore. but will be selling at this time battery tie downs if anyone wants one.Price to be determined (low)

Your work looks good.

I just got the PP buggy last Friday, and I like it. I had to change out the RX, so I can use my MX-A TX...

I have a few other 1/18 cars, so I have a bunch of the Intellect 1200 and 1400 7.2v packs. I havent gotton any of the standard Pro Pulse batteries, and dont plan to. If you are interested in a cheaper price on the IB packs, check out cheapbatterypacks.com I plan to try out the Elite 1500 packs soon. I didnt use an adapter, just cut the leads and soldered on a micro connector. I plan on rewiring all of my battery packs with thicker wire and Deans Ultra plugs soon, just to make things more uniform and reduce the resistance on the wiring (micro connectors cannot pass enough current, and get hot). I fried an ESC because of a micro connector melting a little... This wasnt even on my brushless car.

What kind of metal are you planning on using for your metal hold down? Are you using Acrylic or Lexan for the plastic? Acrylic will crack much easier, but will not scratch as easily.

I like the fact that you are working on custom parts, that is what I love about this hobby. Taking something that is a decent base platform and personalizing/customizing it.
