View Full Version : Tiny receiver

Has anyone of heard of using one of these receivers in a car?
http://www.banebots.com/pc/RC-RX-4/RX-GWS4-NH
It could be the start of something good for a Micro T. It certainly is compact and lite. And inexpensive too. But I don't know if I would trust it in a car. Although I used a lot of these when I was flying. I thrashed them pretty hard, and they always worked well for me. How if I can find an equally compact brushed ESC with reverse that is suitable for the Micro.....well maybe.
There are plenty of servos around that would work well.
Thanks

yes i have but most micro recievers like that are 72 mhz (air) and not surface (75)

This one is 75. I am just wondering if it will hold up under the stress of a car environment.

Your in luck, mine just came in the mail today with a channel 74 for under $30 shipped. My friend has been using one with his KO radio with no problem, while I plan on using this with a JR radio in my micros.

That's what I want to do, in a MICRO T. I have a JR XR3 that I want to use. what are you going to do for an ESP and servo?

Toms RC on ebay. You can possibly get it cheaper from banebots, but after buying a crystal, might come out even.
I meant micro 4wd (M18). I possibly would try it in a Micro T if I had one to try it in. Hence looking for used Micro T.

Now as for the esc buddy, have you looked at the Novak Spy, should be small enough to fit in there with no problems and as for the servo-i think people are looking at the hs 55 i think.

the reciever if bought off of banebots you get 10 % off if you put in the coupon from the top (newweb) so you basically get shipping for free or something. i was just wondering if anyone has ever used a transmitter like they have (shaped like the air transmitter) i wonder how effective they would be.

I never found Toms RC either. Thanks for the link. I am going to write to Castle Creations to see if they make that little BERG Rx on the 75 band. And also if they make an ESC with brake and reverse suitable for our cars with brushed motors.
Thanks

I just talked to Castle Creations on the phone. They do not make a BRUSHED ESC with brake and reverse, except the MAMBA brushless that can be reprogrammed to use with a brushed motor. The MAMBA is way too heavy and expensive for a MICRO. He did tell me that the tiny little BERG Rx will soon be available on the 75 band.......but maybe not real soon. The Pixie doesn't have reverse or brake, but it might work.

01-04-2007, 01:11 PM
I think they mean when you let off the throttle its smoothly changes speed. You wouldn't want a reversing esc in air (ouch!)
Reverse is over rated. I only use forward/brake.
BTW Horizon Hobby does have the GWS Pico for under $20. However, it looks like just the Pico R4-P, not the R4-P2 which I assume is newer. *The one I got from Toms was the PII version.

ICS=Forward GS=Forward + Brake
E=lower auto cutoff voltage of 3.2V (normal 4.2V)
S=ON/OFF switch (no switch=auto ON/Tx activated)
F=Futaba J Rx plug

"Houston, we have a problem"
m18: Something accrued to me last night after I ordered the GWS speed control. I don't think they are going to work in our cars.
Consider this. In an airplane application the throttle stick starts (at idle) in the farther-est down position on the transmitter. or 0%, as you move it forward the % increases until you get to the top of the stick movement which would be +100%. Now on our application our throttle stick (trigger) movement starts (from the neutral position) at approximately +50% and as we pull the trigger it goes up to +100% and when we push it forward (brake or reverse position) the % goes down to 0%. I hope I explained this well enough for you to understand what I am saying.
Now MAYBE this could be overcome with some programing work on a powerful computer radio. I have a JR XS3, and that is what I ordered the GWS receiver to be compatible with. I am pretty sure that JR does not have that programing capability. I also have a Futaba PJ3 with a spektrun mod, but I am trying to avoid buying that $100 micro spektrum Receiver.
Anyway I ordered the GWS ESP from Tower. I am going to call them and ask them to change it out for a Novak SPY, before it gets sent. As I measure things, it appears I can get the SPY and the tiny GWS receiver on the MICRO T without doing any mods to the chassis.

I am thinking the SPY and the GWS receiver will fit the MICRO T chassis as-is.
I also bought a Futaba 3101 servo, cause I heard it is a drop in, except for the spline.
I like the looks of that pro-z chassis.

Doesnt your radio let you adjust the throttle.:confused:
Well,,,,,,, yeah it lets me set "travel adjust" but I think that is just end point adjustment. and it will do "sub trim" adjustments. But I am not sure that would solve the problem either. This radio is the JR XR3. I think the XR3i allows more adjustments.
Maybe it would work. IDK
