I found an aktionRC sleeper480 kit on ebay, and a couple 480BB 7.2 motors, so I'll need some pinions!

I understand the shaft is the same diameter as 540 motors, but how do I know if a pinion is designed for 540 motors or not? I've found some 24t pinions on ebay, and even towerhobbies.com, but neither place lists the shaft diameter. Using the search function on this forum, I've found 22-24 to be the recommended pinion for the 480 motors. Any places you would recommend for pinions, w/ reasonable shipping?

Also, my LRP doesn't do more than 6 cells/7.2 volt. Is it worth it to run 9 cells on the sleeper? Any ESC recommendations? Is motor life affected in any way with 9 cells, versus 6? Keep in mind, I don't race, I just run this sucker in a parking lot.

BTW, here's a pinion on towerhobbies, would this work. It's just a shame I'll have to spend more on shipping than the pinion itself.

Mike,

I've run 9 cells on my sleeper and its a blast!
My setup is using a GM V3R esc
As for motor life, more voltage means more power = reduced life on any motor.
but remember, you can replace the brushes on these 480s. :)

Alternatively, look at a BL setup on it w/lipos to get some great highspeed runtimes...

Check the thread out above. I believe Dan mentions in it, as well as on his website, good online stores to get your required parts for the sleeper. ;)

Those pinions will work but checkout rcboyz on $bay for a set, for better $$.

  I was pretty upset when I found out the SLEEPER 480 was discontinued. I could't seem to find one used so I contacted Aktion rc and it was suggested to me to get the LIPO 540 and convert it down to a 480 because of the simmular design. I'm probobly just going to make my own chassis though.:p
