BL or modified?

hey guys new to the site and to the mini lst.......heres my question....im goin to have to go lipo for sure...the runtimes from what ive read are 10 minutes....what a tease......but im looking at $70 for the krystals...or ..what $130-150 for BL....i dont need a killer top speed (even though its great fun)....but i do want power..and i might aswell get it right the first time...i had a tricked out rc18t after it came out ...all aluminum mamba 6800...and a 10cell pack....that thing was crazy fast...but i had to watch the temps ..due to the wieght of the aluminum im sure but i needed that so i wasnt breaking c-hubs and suspension arms all the time....the lst seems heavy...i guess im looking for the best bang temps and runtime ...with this truck wich is better 2 modifieds or a brushless......thanks

I would say go brushless!

And would suggest either the AON 4900 or the Hyperion 5k or 6k motor.

The AON is a direct fit and has tons of torque.

The Hyperion 5k has similar torque and the 6k has more top end, also with the Hyperion's you will need to grind some material off the motor mount to fit them on. As they have a bigger bearing housing.

Member Toys is running a AON 4900 in his MLST and loves it for bashing! You can always play with gearing to get more speed.

I got a Hyperion 6k for my MLST but due to some dual brushless testing my truck is on the shelf!hehehe

was looking at running one BL motor whats the best one, was looking at the mamba 5400kv or 6800kv

Both motors are ok, but if you're gloing to be running it in your MLST Swamper, the the 6800 might be the better choice.

It wil also depended on what you arwe loking to get out of your BL motor. Are you lookiing for wheelie popping torque, or "stupid fast" top end? High speed runs are hindered by the increased weight and not-as-smooth-drivetrain when compared to something like the RC18T. BL motors with the higher KV rating will be tuned for those high sped runs.

For more torque, look at that 6800 Mamba, the Hyperion's 5K or 6K, AON 4900 or even the Tekin motors.

Batteries will always play an important role in how much speed and power is unleashed from your motor(s). Better batteries or more voltage will net better results.:cool:

looking for a good bashing and track running motor, not going to
race it or run it onroad and i just picked up a 1900 lipo so the low volt cut off of the mamba esc is nice, just don't want something that rips the drive line apart or flips over every time i hit the gas

Yeah I would say go with the 6800 also.

It works well in the MLST on road and should work good on an off road track.

The 6800 will have less torque compared to the 5400 or the Hyperion and AON motors. But that also means it should be a little easier on the drivetrain!

I really like the Hyperion 6kv though! As it gives a good balance of speed and power!

And with the mamba esc you can set the punch control to lessen the affect of the torque on the drivetrain.

Having an adjustable ESC like the Castle C. and Tekin are, is helpfull. I would think speed controls will be heading in that direction, as far as future advancements go. It just makes setting up so much easier, being able to alter the different settings.

Now weather the Mamba Link or Tekins on-board programming are "better" than the other, the debate has gotten heated many, many times:rolleyes: . Both have pro's and con's, just figure out which works best for you:D . :cool:

Look at the second post in this thread.....b-p-p.com..Xtant has good info for you and Bishop are great people to deal with. I would recommend getting the phx-link programming cable if end up with the Mamba esc....Makes programing a snap....You can also save setups so you can revert back or modify with the click of the mouse.
Remember that the larger can bl will have the torque you will need to carry the heavier 4x4 drivetrain....The hyperion and AON motors on their site are packaged with the Mamba esc If you want them that way and are 300 size motor can. The Mamba and Tekin motors I believe are either 180 or 200 size cans.

and are they both a direct bolt in or do I need to modify the mounting bracket

Dude...Read the second post again....The mambas are direct fit also.
If I was putting it in a 4x4 like the MLST My choice would definatly be the larger can AON or Hyperion

Sure can......Brushless motors just need to be paired with brushless esc's.

that is the motor I put in. I am quite happy with it but I look forward to getting the lipo packs as soon as budgeting allows.

Stock motors with all wiring replaced and a good six cell nimh pack is working good for me so far. I know it's not a bl...but my drivetrain lasts alot longer and it's still fun.

I have that motor too. I want to know how you mounted it to the motor plate. did you use an adapter plate ( and if so which one and from where ?) or did you have to mod the exisitng motor plate?
