So on my quest to get the most out of my truck i've been experimenting with different tires and wheels I started with stock and moved to HPI Rallys, and finally have settled on these
http://www.isocorpinc.com/rc/mlst/3.jpg
They are MRC 1/10 scale buggie rims and tires.
They are phenominal.
They handle much better than the stock tires ( not as good as the hpi rally's though, but its a happy medium)
They jump better than stock ( which jumps really well).
and i believe they will withstand punishment much better than the stockers.
oh and last be not least they look alot closer to scale.
more to come once i put the AON in.

That looks killahz man!!!
Nice setup!
I've been telling big-kid about the buggy tires as he has a set of Super Nitro rims with buggy tires on it already! Just waiting to get in the wheel adapters!
Which wheel adapters are you using?
I like the look of white dish rims and racing treads on the MLST!
Gives it a racier look to it! And it does look more scale!
I know now that I will be getting a similar setup for my MLST!!!

Hey nice going QuietFly:D
Are those the rear buggy rim's that you used for the front and back?
I think the harder part for us Xtant, is trying to find those narrower buggy rims locally. I don't recall to many (if any) LHS that stock or sell MRC parts or kits:( . I'm assuming they have the 12mm hex in the rim?

at the time the picture was taken i was using the trinity adapters, but i have since swicthed over to CAW mini inferno adapters as they give you lots more thread and solid axles.
I'm using the thin buggy tires up front and the wide ones on the back.
The setup is really really nice.
MRC has standard 1/10 hexs (12mm) i think.

you can get them from directly if you can't find them locally

Thanks for the info quietfly!!!
I thought those were the trinity wheel adapters, but had heard they did'nt fit well.
I guess the buggy rims are a little thinner around the hex than MT wheels? As I am using Hot Racing Half8 wheel adapters and with my MT wheels the stock wheel nut only goes on about 3/4 of the way.
I'll have to go see if any of the lhs' can get in these wheels/tires?
If not at least I know a place to order them from now! As I could'nt find them on any online hobby shops!

iguess the sb sport wheels can be used for something.... the truck looks awesome,, i like the look,, have you raced it yet..
what are the pros?
" " " cons?
how much larger than stock are these wheels,, and does it put a strain on the motor...
there is this kid at my local track that has this car,, and he seems to be having a problem with the ball cups ,, they keep coming off.. do you have this problem??

I have not raced the truck as there are no local outdoor tracks open this time of year. I do however BASH the heck out of it, and i love it.
The pros? its just about the best preforming 1/18 scale truck out of the box ever. The suspension is amazing change the oil in the shocks to 30~35 and you are set.
The cons? in stock form it tends to traction roll if you are ultra-agressive on power on turns, i sway bar in the back really brings that right under control though. the stock battery pack is only so so
The wheels are about 3mm taller and 1mm wider (in the rear) than the stock.
reguarding the ball cups, there are two fixes, one is free the other cost some money...
the free way is to lightly dremel out the cup alittle more so it is not as tight. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but it works. I also drill a little hole in the back of the cup to keep it from binding. you need to do this by feel so you need to be very careful.
the other option is to get out your calipers and buy some lunsford turnbuckles and dubro ball cups the total length is 55 mm so you have a bunch of choices.
hope this helps..

Nice motor and set-up you've got there Quitefly:D . So you haven't had the chance to run your AON yet? I hear it's got a ton of torque:D . Are you sticking with the stock gearing?
Rich (the Losi Guy) posted this Lunsford/Losi mod http://www.one18th.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29996
Your theroy on the ball cups makes sense, alot of it too. Since Losi decided to amke the 'buckles pop off under pressure from a crash, they had basically 2 simple options of how to make this happen. The first one we think of is to make the ball cup over sized a little to pop off. Your insight into making them too toght or small makes sense, good one

How is your balldiff set man.....is might be on the tight side.

I thought that might be the problem with the first one but the second wasn't that tight. I am thinking of just shoe gooing the stock spider gears and using that.

Well you might a lot more stress on the drivetrain because you just created a spool.....Test it and see what happens man.....would like to know myself.

what ball diff did you put in the losi one or the mip one, i've heard the losi one was not as strong as the mip one, but even still you should not have broken it that soon. i'd check the rest of your drive train to make sure that there is not drag from some where else putting more stress on it (the drive train)

They were both racers edge ball diffs. The guy at my hobby shop said he really liked them. I was able to put them back together but the threads mights be stripped or something because they the truck would just roll real slow

Well I put in the home made spool and it seems to be doing fine so far. I have only run one battery through it but thats more than I got out of the other two ball diffs. I would feel more comfortable with a ball diff but I will see if this holds up with out damaging anything else.

Email CAW from your email. Their Ebay mail is giving them problems, so just paste their email addy into your new message. They useuall reply within a day or so, unless something is going on.
The big advantage to running the CAW adaptor is also getting thier extended axels as well. You could get something like the Hot racing adaptors, but they do not come with "All American, 100% Made in the US of A " :D lengthened axels. The CAW extended axels will also accept buggy rims without the hex adaptor;)
Check or keep checking their Ebay site. They will generally post new items for sale on a weekly basis:cool:

ok, about those tires... i was thinking, if i got the caw extended chassis, plus the monotuning extended track kit, then i should be able to put larger 1/10 tires... but the gears will go to hell tho, and i hope the monotuning long dogbones will hold up...
